2020 was a tough year for game developers. Studios of all sizes had to make the hard decision to push games back into 2021, meaning 2020 was unusually scarce on major releases. On the bright side, that means 2021 is going to be jam-packed with highly anticipated games. One would think that Traveller’s Tales would have said something by now. Part of the reason that it’s hard to speculate on when exactlyThe Skywalker Sagawill release is that it’s unclearhow much work Traveller’s Tales feltit still had left to do. On the one hand, the game could be out sooner rather than later, indicating that there was just a bit of fine tuning to be done that the developers felt they should take a couple extra months to get right. On the other hand,The Skywalker Sagamight have hit secret roadblocks in development and needed a ton of work to get right, amount to a five or six month delay. Considering how wide the window for its release is, either could be true.
The hope for fans is that the prior possibility is the case. After all, Traveller’s Tales delayed the game a long time ago, not just before the 2020 holidays.ALEGO Star Warstrailerreleased last August confirmed that the game wouldn’t be out until 2021. Since the date was pushed back so preemptively, one would hope that it meansThe Skywalker Sagajust needed an extra cushion in development time. A Prime Time for Star Wars
Maybe Traveller’s Tales is keeping the exact release date close to its chest on purpose. It might want to surprise fans with a sudden release, announcing it only a couple weeks beforehand. That kind of sudden release would be unintentional, but it might not be an obstacle to its success.LEGOgames andLEGO Star Warsin particular are hugely successful, and so fans are ready to jump on the game as soon as possible. It’s also a good type of multiplayer game that fans can play with a friend or family member at home, so it’s a great game to pick up while social distancing continues.
