Tap strafing is an important part ofApex Legendsgameplay, with the ability essentially allowing players to make a harder turn than normal and surprise their foes. It can highlight the disparity betweenkeyboard and mouse vs. controller players, but for the most part, manyApex Legendsplayers enjoy this element of the game.
Once upon a time, though, there was a ton of debate around this, asRespawn Entertainment was once preparing to remove tap strafingaltogether. The mere thought of it had many players up in arms, and just as many were relieved when Respawn settled on tuning tap-strafing inApex Legendsinstead of removing it outright. That’s why many were surprised to see tap strafing gone inApextoday, August 15.

The Removal of Tap Strafing Was Unintentional
If the discussion aroundremoving tap strafing inApex Legendswas controversial, one could imagine the uproar with the community if it was removed without any prior warning. Indeed, this is what many thought happened today, as many within the community have vocalized their dislike of this removal. Everyone fromApex Legendsstreamers to casual players was caught off guard by this.
But luckily, it’s nothing like that. Many voices suggested it could be a bug, especially given howApex Legendsseason 14 has had its fair share of bugs already, and Respawn Entertainment confirmed this earlier today. It revealed it was looking into this, which suggests it wasn’t intentional on the company’s part, and about two hours after, it was confirmed as fixed.
As of this writing,Apex Legendsplayers should be able to tap strafe again or will be able to soon, with some likely needing to wait a little longer than others as the fix rolls out. Indeed, while this had the potential to cause a huge controversy within the community, especially if this bug lasted for days, theApex Legendscommunity was heard and Respawn was quick to fix this.
This little disruption proved to just be a blip on the radar, and with it out of the way,Apex Legendsplayers can return to normal. Season 14 is well underway now, but many players are likely trying to figure out thenewApex Legendsmetaright now, a meta that would not be the same without tap strafing.
