Five years after the release ofBatman: Arkham Knight, one of the game’s rarest skins is coming back for a limited time. The skin in question is the highly-requested Earth 2 Dark Knight skin and it will be made available to allBatman: Arkham Knightowners starting January 28, but only on PS4. PC and Xbox One owners ofBatman: Arkham Knightare out of luck for now.
As for what prompted the release of the Earth 2 Dark Knight skin, it goes back to a recent release in mid-2019. Rocksteady Studios put out a specialBatman: Arkham Collectionbundle that included the Earth 2 skin, but it was exclusively made available in Europe on PS4. At the time of the collection’s announcement in June 2019, Rocksteady confirmed that the skin would come to all PS4 owners ofBatman: Arkham Knight6 months later.

Why the skin isn’t also coming to PC or Xbox One versions ofBatman: Arkham Knightisn’t clear. Platform exclusivity deals, especially for DLC content like a skin, rarely last longer than a year, so it’s possible that the skin will come to other platforms in another six months. It’s also possible thatRockstead Studiosonly brought the skin out of the vault because Sony was willing to pay for it and that releasing it on other platforms isn’t worth the cost. If Rocksteady is going to bring it to PC and Xbox One, the studio won’t announce it until that exclusivity window is over, so fans will just have to wait that much longer to find out.
Technically, the skin is already available for all platforms; it’s just incredibly rare. The Earth 2 Dark Knight skin was given out as a promotional item through two different events. The first was through a Mountain Dew promotion for the limitedMountain Dew Game FuelCitrus Cherry flavor. The second was for those who attended special theater screenings of E3 several years back. It’s possible that some of these codes could be found on eBay, but they’d definitely be pricey.
It’s still odd that almost 5 years after release, there’s a conversation to be had about a piece of DLC forBatman: Arkham Knight. Of course, with anewBatmangame announcementseemingly on the horizon, just as one complicated issue wraps up there’s likely to be another one starting.
