Far Cry 6is just a couple of days away from launch, and many fans are no doubt excited about taking on the role of a guerilla fighter while exploring the fictional world of Yara. With this, and other anticipated games, coming out this month,October is shaping up to be a great time for a lot of big releases. Recently, Ubisoft lifted the embargo on the game, ready for streamers to be let loose onto it. However, there may be some issues afoot as a benchmark test shows some concerning results.
In a video submitted by DSO Gaming, a visual test was performed onFar Cry 6to see how it would hold up on a high-end PC running at numerous settings. The results suggest that the game might have some issues with framerate, with the person performing the test noticing that it was putting a lot of strain on one of the CPU’s 16 threads. In the video, the same footage is run but at different resolutions, and even when run on 1080p, the output shows that one of the threads was taking on a lot of the work.

The system used was running an Intel i9 9900K, 16GB of DDR4 memory, and using anNvidia RTX 3080 graphics card. Essentially, with the hardware as it is, the benchmark test seems to show thatFar Cry 6is struggling to run as smooth as it could be, without choking one of the CPU threads, and even when the resolution was turned down. Even when reduced to 1920 x 1080, the footage shown struggles to reach past 100 fps, sometimes dropping as low as around the 73 mark. This could be grave news for PC gamers who are expecting a game of this caliber to run at 120 fps.
Although the PC version will still have many of the accouterments that come with modern gaming, such asray tracing which the console ports ofFar Cry 6won’t be getting, the fact that this test shows framerate issues is likely to be cause for concern for some. That’s not to say all PCs will struggle to run it, this was just the one test after all. However, if an Intel i9 processor and a high-end GPU are struggling to get the game running above 100 fps, then others may also struggle.
Of course, Ubisoft could patch this out either on day release or further down the line. It’s easily one of themost anticipated game releases of Fall 2021, so let’s hope that it comes out hitting the ground running.
