The year 2023 is coming to an end now, with December already halfway through. The anime community has had quite an incredible year with the drop of sequel seasons to many beloved franchises and new anime taking the world by storm as well.
These shows have incredible stories, and many received incredible treatment when it came to animation. In a plethora of amazing anime, the Shonen ones always catch the eye and these anime are the best of the best when it comes to what 2023 had to offer. It will surely be hard for 2024 to top everything that fans received this year.
Season 2
Spy x Family
Created by Tatsuya Endo, Spy X Family is an action-adventure comedy anime that follows the misadventures of a found family with unique quirks. The story follows spy Twilight (known as Loid Forger), who, while on assignment, builds a fake family to get closer to his target. Unbeknownst to him, his new family carries their quirks. His wife, Yor, is a kind but deadly assassin, while his daughter, Anya, has telepathic powers - and is the only one who knows their secrets.
Many fans were excited for the grand return of the belovedSpy X Familywhich rose to popularity with its 2022 anime adaptation. The season isn’t over yet, and so far, it has been covering the Imperial Scholars Mixer arc and the Cruise Adventure arc.
Season 2 will probably have a part 2 as well that will air in 2024, but for now, fans will be excited to accompany Anya, Yor, and Loid on their many adventures throughout the story.
Tokyo Revengerswas one of the biggest hit mangas over the past few years. The story follows Takemichi, a young boy living a boring life until he discovers his girlfriend, Hinata, from back in his school days, died. Many things happen and he’s thrust back into the past where now he has one difficult goal - changing the past to save Hinata in the present.
Season 2 of this show was cut into 2 parts, the first covering the Christmas Conflict arc, and the second covering the Tenjiku arc, the two very best arcs from the entire manga.
After many years without an ending to the belovedBleachanime, which was even a part of the Big 3, alongside One Piece and Naruto, fans finally received what they’d been long awaiting – an anime adaptation of the Thousand Year Blood War, whichtakes place after Aizen’s fall.
With season 1 being a huge success in 2022, season 2 in 2023 was just as great. Season 2 aired for 13 episodes and fans can’t wait for the next part, which will most likely premiere sometime in 2024.
Demon SlayerorKimetsu No Yaibais one of the biggest shonen anime to ever exist. Following the journey of Tanjiro, the story in Demon Slayer’s Season 3 takes fansto the Swordsmith Village arc.This was a short season with only 11 episodes, but it was great, nevertheless, even if it wasn’t the fans’ favorite season.
Tanjiro needed a sword repairment due to his previous fights, meanwhile, many powerful enemies are on the lookout. The arc saw powerful Hashira intervene as well, notably Muichiro and Mitsuri, the Mist and Love Hashira.
After long, theAttack On Titananime finally concluded its story in 2023 with the Final Season’s Part 3. Fans have been awaiting this moment for long and the anime did not disappoint when it came to finally finishing this legendary series that captivated fans for years.
The animation was incredible and while many people had initially hated the ending in the manga, most seem to like it in the anime.With Eren’s death and Mikasa’s actions, the curse of the Titans is removed and the world is at peace, for some time, at least.
Jujutsu Kaisenis one of the biggest anime right now, and season 2 of the show definitely took the internet by storm. Season 2 of this anime coveredthe long awaited Shibuya arc, an arc that beats any expectations fans must’ve had ofJujutsu Kaisenwhen they watched the first season.
This arc saw major events, such as Gojo’s Sealing, as well as the tragic deaths of many beloved characters as the anime does not shy away from the brutality. The animation is also stunning and beautiful to watch.
The very best shonen anime of the year isOne Piece.This amazing manga by Eiichiro Oda was in its Wano arc in the anime, which left many fans speechless with its amazing story and incredible animation quality, especially for a weekly anime.
The Straw Hat Piratesall had major fights in the anime in 2023, with the ones standing out most being Robin vs Black Maria, Sanji vs Queen, Zoro vs King, and finally, Luffy vs Kaido.
