Bluepoint Games was officially acquired by Sony just a few years ago, following several years of collaboration between the two companies. Currently,Bluepoint is developing an original project, which may nudge it out of its position as a high-end remake machine. But if Sony does intend for Bluepoint to tackle another remake or remaster, there’s one PlayStation IP that deserves the company’s signature treatment more than any other:Infamous.

Infamousfirst landed on the gaming scene in 2009, in the middle of the PS3’s struggles in the Western console market. Developed bySly Cooperstudio Sucker Punch, the game puts players in the shoes of Cole McGrath, a courier in NYC-inspired Empire City who gains awe-inspiring electricity powers following a mass destruction event. The series was generally well-received by critics and audiences but has been dormant since 2014, and it might be time for a comeback.

Most recently, Sucker Punch lent its talents toGhost of Tsushima, which reprises some elements ofInfamous' gameplaybut is mostly a radically different experience.

Why Infamous Would Be the Perfect Choice for Bluepoint’s Next Remake

Infamous Serves as a Prime Example of Remake Potential

As a concept, remakes can be somewhat controversial. Many gaming fans tend to look at them as being somewhat unnecessary or motivated by bad intentions like greed, which is not a totally unfounded criticism. But sometimes, as with thewell-receivedResident Evilremakes, these sorts of reprisals can be a good call.

Infamousfalls into the “good call” category as, while the original games certainly have merit, they have not aged as gracefully as one would have hoped. This is especially true for the first game, which features the bland color palette that characterized late-2000s AAA games, along with generally rough visuals and performance hiccups. In general, although theconcept of the firstInfamousis brilliant, and the execution is decent, time has not been its friend. Thus, a facelift could help its strengths shine brighter while introducing the game to a new generation of gamers who may have missed it on the PS3.

BothInfamousandInfamous 2can be streamed on PS4 and PS5, but they cannot be run natively or without a subscription.

A Bluepoint Remake of Infamous Wouldn’t Need to Change Much

Bluepoint has ported and remastered a number of games, but itsShadow of the ColossusandDemon’s Soulsremakes are what most gamers know the company for. These remakes have been praised not only for their impressive visuals, but for their faithfulness to the original releases: with the exception of a few notable quality-of-life improvements, both theShadow of the ColossusandDemon’s Soulsremakes are nearly identicalto their original iterations in terms of gameplay, level design, narrative, and the like.

AnInfamousremake from Bluepoint could follow the same formula, polishing the original’s rough edges but keeping its core gameplay intact, warts and all. This would make it inoffensive to fans of the original while still serving as a new twist on the established experience.Infamousdeserves a remake, and a Bluepoint-style game with impressive graphics, visual effects, animations, and sound design would be a welcome addition to many PS5 game libraries.
