AlthoughCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warreleases in less than a month’s time now, there’s still a lot of unknown for its Zombies mode. Treyarch is likely keeping as much of the curtain drawn there as it can, as regardless,Treyarch Zombies are a seller. Mystery only adds to that.

What has been confirmed so far is that the first map is Die Maschine, which is aremake of sorts for Nacht der Untoten, the original Zombies map. It allows players to explore a new story and secrets with Soviet-era weaponry and to do so through the eyes of the originalBlack Ops.Grigoi Weaver from the original game explores a WW2 bunker in position to The Omega Group. Instead of returning or new specific characters, players will useCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer operators, including Frank Woods and more, to explore this Zombies story.

Black Ops Cold War Zombies

What’s clear is howCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Waris trying to take steps forward while paying proper homage to the past. Fitting, it is then, that before the game even had a proper name, many rumors circulated thatBlack Ops Cold Warwould include a remake of Tranzit. There’s nothing to confirm this as a possible plan or DLC, and the rumor themselves have long since fallen to the wayside. While a remake of Tranzit is unlikely, at least on day one, the implication alone sets up big things.

Black Ops 3andBlack Ops 4are where many Zombies enthusiasts fell off the bus, so to speak.Zombies has always been fun, but the gameplay changesintroduced inBO3and which jumped forward inBO4has created several fan awaiting the nostalgic feel. While which Zombies mode is best is subjective,Black Ops 1perfected a formula introduced in World at War, andBlack Ops 2carried that momentum forward. Tranzit became the biggest map at the time, was more interactive than past maps, and had a lot of features that felt unique, but most importantly, fitting.

A remake of Tranzit or keeping Tranzit in mind meansTreyarchmay be looking at how to capture the classic experience with some unique twists and turns, without going so far as the departure seen inBlack Ops 4. Even if a literal Tranzit remake is unlikely, understanding how the map worked on a basic level and building from there would be a good way to move forward. While it remains to be seen what other maps exist, it does seem that Dies Maschine captures that by binging back the original map and expanding on it. If Treyarch can do this with even a few of the maps, while introducing new ones that capture the same spirit, Zombies may just be resurrected bigger and better than ever.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Waris set to release on November 13 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
