A fix for an extremely destructive bug has finally been released toCall of Duty: Modern Warfareplayers. WhileCall of Duty: Modern Warfarehas a long list of problems, this game-breaking particular bug locked players out of the game and refused to budge. Thankfully, Infinity Ward has a fix for players who have been impacted by it.

The bug originally appeared around July or August, and it affected a widerange ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfareplayers. Since then, the bug has been relatively absent, but players originally affected have been potentially locked out of multiplayer functionality for months.

The bug was originally triggered due to a looping error code. Whenplayers boot upCall of Duty: Modern WarfareorCall of Duty: Warzone,the title goes through a “fetching online profile” phase. During this phase, the game can occasionally get stuck looping, resulting in an indefinite lock out of online play as the game believes the player is loading duplicate accounts. After the developers instituted an original fix, the bug resurfaced in November and has locked players out for several weeks.

Earlier this week, Infinity Ward announced a backend fix that will allowthousands of players access toCall of Duty: Modern WarfareandWarzoneagain. This update is an important fix for theCall of Dutycommunity, as many players are looking forward to the release of Season 1 content in the next few days.

If the bug had not been repaired before the new season’s launch, many players would not be able toaccessCall of Duty: Warzoneday one. This would mean that they could have potentially missed vital time to progress their battle pass, special sales, and enjoy new content with friends.

Call of Duty: WarzoneandModern Warfareplayershope that error code 664640 is permanently dead. After inconveniencing players for an extended amount of time, many fans are ready to return to take on the grind and join the friends on the battlefield.
