The recently releasedCall of Duty: Modern Warfareis smashing sales records for Activision. As announced earlier today,Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis the top-selling new game of 2019, the biggest selling digital opening in Activision’s history, has the highest digital sales on PS4 for a three day period, and has sold more in the first three days than any otherCall of Dutygame this entire console generation. It’s also the biggestCall of DutyPC launch ever, with Activision raking in a staggering $600 million inModern Warfare’s first three days of release.
Activision has pointed out thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfarehas “more than doubled” box office opening forJoker, and it’s also worth pointing out that its sales are outpacingCall of Duty: Black Ops 4as well.Black Ops 4made $500 million in its first weekend, soModern Warfarehas already made $100 million more than last year’sCall of Duty. And sinceBlack Ops 4was the best-selling game of 2018, it seems safe to assume thatModern Warfarewill be this year’s best-selling game.

The massive sales success ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfareisn’t all that surprising. TheCall of Duty: Modern Warfarereviewshave been mostly positive, with many coming away impressed by the campaign and multiplayer. That being said, the game has also earned its fair share of criticism, mainly targeting the Spec Ops co-op mode and certain aspects about the multiplayer that hasn’t pleased allCall of Dutyfans.
Infinity Ward has been listening to fan feedback and has already made some changes toCall of Duty: Modern Warfarein response. For example, there were some fans who were annoyed that they were forced to play on both the big and small maps in standard multiplayer. Infinity Ward quicklychanged theCall of Duty: Modern Warfaremultiplayer playliststo give fans the option to only play on smaller 6v6 maps or the larger 10v10 maps.
Moving forward, theCall of Duty: Modern Warfareexperience should improve as issues are addressed and new content is added to the game.AllCall of Duty: Modern Warfaremultiplayer DLC maps will be free, and leaks point to the return of classic maps, so fans should have a lot to look forward to.
