Alongside the cinematic campaign and competitive multiplayer, Zombies continues to be a staple of theCall of Dutyseries with its latest iteration inCall of Duty: Vanguard. However, a popular part of the mode was missing from the mode at launch and is forcing players to rely on regular bullets to put down the hordes of the undead. It is about to change when the next season of content drops and brings back the campy, popular array of sci-fi guns, better known asWonder Weapons, to Zombies to keep the Third Reich’s undead army down.
Narratively,Call of Duty: Vanguard’s next content season picks up at the end of season one and sees Captain Butcher join up with Task Force Yeti to investigate the Nazis' dangerous Nebula V gas weapon. Chemical warfare and armored combat is going to be a central focus of the core multiplayer update with Nebula-focused weapons alongside the new vehicle-focused Arms Race mode, the latter of which will release later in the season. The Nebula V weapons will also be available to use inside Warzone, along with new zones on Caldera befitting the season.

Zombies, on the other hand, will transport players toEgypt’s Eastern Desertto close a new Dark Aether portal opened by the villainous Von List with the aforementioned Wonder Weapons at their side. The season two update will introduce two Wonder Weapons, one new and one returning, to the array of weapons currently available to slay the undead with.
First is the popular and iconic Ray Gun, the very first Wonder Weapon which made its debut inCall of Duty: World at Warand has been in allTreyarch-developedCall of Dutygames. The Ray Gun fires circular energy beams which can rip through the undead with one shot, though players have to be mindful of their ammo.
Alongside theRay Gun, Sledgehammer’s first contribution to the colorful array of Wonder Weapons will be the new Decimator Shield. The weapon is described as having “a unique personality of its own” and offers players “superior protection” from the undead along with its “mighty Decimation Blast ability.”
Wonder Weapons, as mentioned, have been a regular and popular feature ofCall of Duty Zombiesas they are typically among the most powerful weapons in the mode. That said, their absence has been sorely missed by fans of the mode when it launched insideVanguard, which was criticized repeatedly for an apparent lack of content. Players can argue, though, that while more content may still be needed, introducing Wonder Weapons is a major first step in addressing these criticisms.
Call of Duty: Vanguardis currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
