Mixing dinosaurs, co-op, and first-person shooter action, it’s a formula that just makes sense. Since its announcement,Second Extinctionhas launched in early access and has since been robustly expanded on and polished with player feedback guiding the way. Now Systemic Reaction is ready to take the next step.Second Extinctionnow has an officially confirmed release date.
A new trailer forSecond Extinctionwas released on Thursday confirming the shooter’s upcoming release date. The trailer offers a fast-paced look at many ofSecond Extinction’s selling points. It reveals many ofSecond Extinction’s explorable environments, the diverse range of dinosaur enemies players will fight, combat with a variety of weapons, and teases of bigger enemies that will be faced. The trailer ends with the confirmation thatSecond Extinctionis leaving early access on October 20.

Alongside the confirmation ofSecond Extinctionleaving early access,Systemic Reactionalso teases some of what players can expect to be delivered with the full release. The trailer specifically mentions more to explore, more to hunt, and more to fight. To be more specific, there are new maps teased, a battle pass and new progression systems confirmed, and of course new dinosaurs both small and large for players to battle.
It’s important to acknowledge thatSecond Extinctionhas been planned to be alive-service gameever since it was first announced. With that in mind, the full release is certain to be just the first step in Systemic Reaction’s plans for the game going forward. Once it launches, that’s just the beginning forSecond Extinction. From there, Systemic Reaction’s goals will revolve around player retention and expanding the game with new content and rewards to keep it living well beyond 2022.
While it hasn’t been mentioned as part of the recent announcement, Systemic Reaction did mention that it planned to increase the price ofSecond Extinctiononce it launched. The game has been and still is available for $24.99 viaSteam early access. It’s unclear when the price will be raised, but those interested in purchasing the game may want to do so sooner rather than later.
Second Extinctionwill be arriving at the front of what could be a wave of co-op shooters in the relatively near future. In fact, another co-op dinosaur shooter, Capcom’sExoprimal, recently hosted a network test and has more planned soon. Then there’sOverwatch 2’s PvE,Redfall, and many more.Second Extinctionwill be hoping to make its mark quickly.
