Dragon Ball Z: KakarotDLC 2 still remains shrouded in mystery for the most part, but at this point, fans are fairly certain thatGolden Frieza will be the main antagonist. While this comes as no surprise since it’s the logical next step after defeating Beerus in DLC 1, many fans are hoping to get the opportunity to play as Golden Frieza. He is one ofDragon Ball’s most iconic villains after all, and his golden form seems to amplify his popularity as much as it amplifies his power. But at first glance ,it may not seem feasible to make Golden Frieza a playable character.
ManyDragon Ball Zgames have allowed players to take control of Frieza, but they are typically less story oriented thanDragon Ball Z: Kakarot. In regards to Golden Frieza specifically, he is rarely playable, only making appearances in this capacity in theXenoversegames as DLC and as a transformation inFighterZ. This lack of representation makes sense given that he is predominantly a villain, butDragon Ball Supermay hold the key to making this most beloved and hatedDragon Ballvillain playable in a story-based game.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot New Playable Characters
In DLC 2, Golden Frieza will almost certainly play the role of the main boss and probably won’t be a playable character, and the proof for that lies in the events of DLC 1. Early on, afterBeerus and Whis' models were found inDragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s game files, players began speculating that they might be playable in the first DLC as well. Obviously, this did not end up being the case, as both characters are only available to do battle against and can’t be played. The same will likely hold true for Golden Frieza.
That doesn’t necessarily rule out Goku’s greatest nemesis as playable in the future, though. So far,Dragon Ball Z: Kakarothas not added any new playable characters beyond what was available at launch, but that could still change. Frieza is interesting because he eventually becomes something of a reluctant ally to Goku, but in order for this to manifest in game, CyberConnect2 would need toadd the Tournament of Power toDragon Ball Z: Kakarot. While not impossible, this is likely a ways away since there is still the Universe 6 Saga and the Future Trunks Saga fromDragon Ball Superto be adapted, but the groundwork is definitely there.
How Likely is Playable Golden Frieza?
Putting aside the long wait that fans will need to see whether Golden Frieza is playable, he actually checks off most of the boxes needed to qualify for the role. Of the existing playable characters, they all share a few traits that set them apart from most of the support characters. The biggest distinction is that every playable character has transformations, usually aSuper Saiyan Formor in Piccolo’s case a “fusion,” but that is something that Frieza has no shortage of.
This may actually just be coincidence, though, as Trunks and Goten can also go Super Saiyan. What really determines whether a character is playable or not is their role in the story and in major battles. This is the main reason why Frieza won’t be playable until the Tournament of power, as until that point he doesn’t play a major role in any battles other than being the villain. For now, players should set aside any dreams they had of flying around the map as Golden Frieza, focusing instead on the inclusion of Super Saiyan Blue and eventuallyDragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s Card Battle mode.
