Fan designs for console bundles are a somewhat uncommon form of fan art, but they still come up from time to time. With a franchise as widely acclaimed and a sequel as highly anticipated asGod of War: Ragnarok, fan concepts for a PS5 bundle seem almost inevitable.

God of War: Ragnarokis the second title in the rebootedGod of Warseries that pushes the hack-and-slash gameplay the franchise was previously known for aside in favor of telling a more engaging story. The initial game originally launched on PS4 in 2018, andRagnarokseems poised to continue the compelling narrative of the first game in the rebooted series.

God of War España, the Spanish community account forGod of War, posted a concept edit for aGod of War: RagnarokPS5 along with the caption (roughly translated) “We hope you like the edit we have made of #GodofWar on the #PS5.” Thespecial edition console conceptincludes an interesting choice for the faceplate design, with a highly stylized presentation invoking the feel of 1920s American national park posters with its striking contrasts and high-depth landscape. The controller gets a more subdued makeover, with theRagnaroklogo on the touchpad and a shiny gold color applied to its bumpers and triggers.

Custom designs are nothing new to the PlayStation line, with the PS4 receiving numerous special editions over the years, and some ownersapplying custom console skins to their PlayStations. PS5 consoles themselves are still difficult to come by, and COVID causing problems in the manufacturing process may be why Sony has not released a special edition PS5 yet.

God of War: Ragnarokcould be the perfect opportunity to bring a new design out. APS4 Pro bundle with a similar conceptwas released alongside the PS4God of Wargame, so it would make sense to do so forRagnarokas well. The PS4 Pro bundle featured a somewhat minimal design, with Norse symbols on the console and the game’s logo on the touchpad of the controller. It is unclear whether a potentialRagnarokbundle would take a similar approach. The 1920s poster-inspired design of the fan concept is a striking choice that could be worth considering, but as with all fan designs, it is unlikely that it will actually be used for an official bundle.

God of Warquickly becamethe best-reviewed PS4 gamewhen it launched in 2018, and Sony Santa Monica has daunting expectations to live up to for its sequel. Especially withRagnarokslated for release on PS5, the game will need to be a true technical showcase as well as mechanically sound and narratively compelling in order to live up to its predecessor. Considering how little has been shown ofRagnarokso far, the developers evidently want to wait to show the game off until it is at its best.

AGod of Warsequel is currently in development for the PlayStation 5.
