For many fans, the incredibly long wait forCyberpunk 2077is coming to an end soon. Unfortunately, one gamer that was excited for the latest CD Projekt Red release will not be able to experience the game, and theCyberpunk 2077community has come together to honor the fan that passed away a few days ago.
The gamer’s name was Johnny, an appropriate name given that it is shared byCyberpunk 2077’s playable Keanu Reeves character. In a Reddit post from Johnny’s father, going by the username Mixitman, the sudden death of the fan was shared with the public. The heartbreaking post shared that Johnny “would have have gone as a caring Street kid just trying to make a better world.” Further, an image of Johnny and his girlfriend is included, with the player’s father revealing he had proposed a week prior to his death.

The sad post from Johnny’s grieving father is tough to get through, butthe hugeCyberpunk 2077communitycame together to show their love for the late Johnny and his family. Dozens of comments poured in, ranging from gamers saying they are sorry for their loss and others making art at the father’s request. Gamers also called for the player to be immortalized inCyperpunk 2077via a tribute, and while it is unclear if that will happen, Johnny will be seen in anotherCyberpunkproject.
A comment from therealmaxmike, a developer on the tabletop RPGCyberpunk RED, made a promise to Johnny’s father that his son will “be one of the Pack eternally riding the open road with the Aldecaldo Family.” Including the player inone of theCyberpunkfactionsis a great way to pay respects, and the good deed left Johnny’s father “speechless.” Sharing that him and his wife have been seeing all the support, Mixitman went on to say that they are incredibly thankful and the love has been “helping to mend this gigantic hole left in our hearts.”
Not only did several commenters promise to doa Street Kid playthroughin honor of Johnny, but a Twitter hashtag and giveaway were started to get the word out regarding his passing. The Cyberpunk 2077 Countdown Twitter is responsible for the giveaway, with the goal being “to honor Johnny and those who will never get the chance to experience Night City.” With everything being done, it is easy to understand why all the community support has helped Johnny’s family through the grieving process.
With a community that is willing to recreateCyberpunk 2077trailers inWorld of Warcraftand come together in such a big way to celebrate the life of a fan, CD Projekt Red has clearly brought together a special group with its latest game. Come next Friday, players will get the chance to #PlayForJohnny as well.
Cyberpunk 2077will be available December 10 on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
