Kids all over the planet are hoping to find a Nintendo Switch for the holiday this year, but at least some of them are going to turn up disappointed. One father in particular has planned ahead to troll his kids with the promise of Nintendo Switches.
The Switch, Nintendo’s hybrid handheld/console system, is popular enough to already have two versions of it out, theSwitch and the Switch Lite. But it won’t be either of these that the kids are getting this Christmas.

@RealOHMEGA took to Twitter to show off his plans. Simply titled ‘The kids are getting Nintendo Switches this year,’ @RealOHMEGA reveals an image of several light switches emblazoned with the Nintendo logo, being neatly packed intoNintendo Switch boxes. The Switch boxes might be the first clue that the kids get that something is awry, as they’re not quite official-looking. Even so, a kid on Christmas morning ripping open a package to see ‘Nintendo Switch’ staring back at them probably won’t automatically assume that something dastardly is underway.
It’s unclear if @RealOHMEGA intends to actually go through with this prank, but if they do, they’re likely to have a lot of unhappy kids on their hands come Christmas morning. It’s all well and good to prank people, but one can only hope that after the kids initially have their hopes dashed that there might be an actual bunch of Nintendo Switches waiting for them to make them freak out one more time.
For those who are still looking for the Nintendo Switch, now is a good time to pick one up. The console has seen some of its best deals yet this holiday shopping season, with major retailersdiscounting the Nintendo Switch.
It’s worth noting that while it might seem mean to use a wholesome Nintendo product in this prank, Nintendo itself isn’t shy about teasing its fans with hope only to dash it. Nintendo revealed a game a couple years back for April Fool’s Day entitledFire Emblem: Battle of Revolutionfor the Switch and 3DS. WhileFire Emblemfans thought the game looked like it actually had potential, it was ultimately revealed to be a purposeful fake designed as a joke.
The Nintendo Switch is available now.
