The long wait forDead Island 2is finally about to be over. After lengthy delays, studio rearrangements, and other unfortunate circumstances, Deep Silver’s Dambuster Studios is finally ready to unveil the long-awaited zombie-survival sequel.
Still, there are elements ofDead Island 2that remain a mystery to some. This list will act as a guide for all the frequently asked questions plaguing everyone’s mind as audiences gear up for the official launch ofDead Island 2.

The cost ofDead Island 2largely dependson the edition the player purchases. The standard game (Day One Edition) is available for pre-order on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One for $69.99. The Pulp Edition is also currently available for pre-order at $69.99 and includes the Pulp Weapons Pack and the standard pre-order bonuses.
The Deluxe Edition is currently running at $74.99 on most marketing sites as of writing. This edition includes the pre-order bonuses with the added Golden Weapons Pack and two character packs.
The Gold Edition is currently $89.99 and includes the Pulp Weapons pack, the Gold Weapons pack, Character Packs 1 and 2, and the standard pre-order bonuses. The most expensive version of the game currently available is called the HELL-A Edition, which is being offered at $99.99. The HELL-A Edition gets its name from a play-on-words forDead Island 2’s signature setting. It includes everything from the Gold Edition and adds a Steelbook,six slayer tarot cards, two pin badges, one patch, and a fancy map of Venice Beach.
As previously mentioned,Dead Island 2has a wide variety of offerings depending on the pre-order package selected. All standard pre-orders of the game come with the Memories of Banoi Pack, which includes a Banoi War Club, a Banoi Baseball Bat, a weapon perk, and a Personal Space Skill Card.
How each of these will change the player’spersonal style ofDead Island 2’s gameplaywill have to be further investigated once the game officially launches. Still, it is safe to assume that the pre-order bonuses automatically start the player off on a good foot for zombie hunting.
WhileDead Island 2does share its namesake with its predecessor, the games do not need to be played sequentially.Dead Island 2is an original story with different characters, settings, and more advanced mechanics.
That’s not to say playing theoriginalDead Islandisn’t informative in better understanding some of the game’s mechanicsand observing its tone. There may also be Easter Eggs or references withinDead Island 2that pay respect to the original Banoi outbreak. But by and large,Dead Island 2can be played entirely on its own.
Dead Island 2does have multiplayer. Inviting friends and accepting invites will require a bit of story progression first (roughly an hour). However, once the player passes that point, accessing the multiplayer menu is just a few button presses away.
Dead Island 2allows cooperative story progress to carry over. For example, helping a friend through five missions in co-op will allow the player to carry through their solo story from that point of the co-op adventure. Players can only join with players on the same mission or earlier.
Dead Island 2does not have crossplayas of writing. Xbox fans will unfortunately not be able to join their PlayStation friends when playingDead Island 2and vice versa. The game does allow crossgen play, though, meaning PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players can join games of those who have a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S, respectively.
Dead Island 2abandons the original game’s setting of Banoi and primarily places players in a recreated version ofLos Angeles. While not technically an island,Dead Island 2’s version of LAcertainly captures the tropical sandbox that made Banoi so fun to explore.
From comments made by some of the game’s developers and input from those who have played it, it seems thatDead Island 2’s journey takes roughly 20 hours to complete. There are a number of side quests and paths that can certainly extend this figure for those eager to be completionists.
Dead Island 2is not technically an open-world game. Instead of one massive, explorable area, the game offers richly detailed interconnected spaces but is not technically free-roam. These individual locations can be explored via fast travel at different intervals in the story.
Is Dead Island 2 on Game Pass?
Dead Island 2will officially launch on April 21st. The game is sure to be an ambitious outing for survival horror and zombie fans alike.
