Dead Island 2has partnered up with a company that offers an unusual, but very real service. The first-person action RPG has been in the making for a long time. Originally announced at Sony’s E3 media briefing in 2014, it was going to be made by Yager Development and the release was planned for Q2 of 2015. However, that quickly fell apart as Deep Silver announced it’ll no longer be working with Yager Development due to creative differences. In March 2016, Sumo Digital took over, and Deep Silver kept reiterating to the fans and the media that the game is still in development. By 2019, a new announcement came, stating Sumo Digital was out as well and Dambuster Studios was the new developer, which is an internal studio of Deep Silver. AfterDead Island 2was shown at Gamescom 2022, the release date was announced as June 12, 2025, though was later moved to April 28, and then shifted again to be a week earlier.
However, after all the development problems,Dead Island 2has seemingly become a big hit for Deep Silver. The game is enjoying quick success by selling one million copies in three days, and for those fans who still have plenty of money left after the purchase,Dead Island 2has a unique perk to suggest.

This strange partnership was announced in a video set in the world ofDead Island 2, and if the viewer doesn’t read the description below, they might just think it’s an in-universe gag. But in order tocelebrate the release ofDead Island 2, the game joined forces with a UK insurance provider called DeadHappy. The company offers a kind of service most will either find brilliant or off-putting. DeadHappy wanted to provide a platform for people to think about what they’d like to happen after the inevitable happens. The idea behind this is the hope to eventually change people’s attitudes around death. The product is specifically called a Deathwish, but DeadHappy is quick to explain this doesn’t mean a desire to pass away but rather plans for those who are left behind after someone’s demise.
Due to this partnership, DeadHappy created aDead Island 2themedDeathwish, which is valued at £8,000. It’s described as sending “your mates to the real LA for a zombie cocktail-fueled party before it goes to hell! A wake to end all wakes, in your honor.” This Deathwish also covers the client’s funeral expenses, and if the viewer is to believe the video, it’ll come with a reinforced coffin, so if the zombie apocalypse ever becomes a reality, the client’s loved ones are protected at least from the possibility of the client themselves rising from the grave.
Whether fans think this is a brilliant piece of marketing or just outright morbid will likely spark debates. But what it certainly achieves is morepeople talking aboutDead Island 2.
Dead Island 2is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
