Destiny 2’sThe Witch Queenimmediately became a huge success for Bungie, even before it was released, and the feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly positive since its launch. One of the highlights for everyDestiny 2release, includingThe Witch Queen, is often the soundtrack of the expansion or even that for seasonal content. As such, it’s not uncommon for fans like to listen to the various tracks Bungie has produced either while playing or even when off the game. This is especially true for all the music that is now gone due to the Destiny Content Vault, or that ofDestiny 2’s predecessor.
There are several YouTube channels dedicated to hostingmusic archives forDestinyandDestiny 2, with some content creators even transforming the original soundtracks into remixed tracks. Even though this is good for the community, there may be issues with the legal department when a given video is just the full soundtrack on a static image. This is something that violates Bungie’s guidelines on the matter, and it has resulted in videos being taken down, demonetized, or entirely removed from the platform.

However, yesterday manyDestiny 2music archivistsgot multiple channel strikes for copyright reasons, resulting in a few accounts being terminated without notice and other YouTubers having enough time to delete the tracks themselves to keep their channel active. This strike and takedown wave was issued overnight for some creators, resulting in them not even seeing what was going on until it was too late. The community took this to Reddit to both get answers from Bungie and to alert other individuals who may be affected in the coming days.
YouTubers like Aussiehalo and lorcan0c spoke up about the incident on Reddit, telling their experience with and trying to spread the message in order to get Bungie’s attention. Because it seems that Bungie outsourced the ability to protect its IP, this may not be Bungie’s own doing, and the actions taken can be reverted to an extent if the company is willing to do that. However, allDestinyandDestiny 2music that got deleted cannot be salvaged unless the music archivists had a backup of their videos, which lorcan0c confirmed they do.
SomeDestiny 2fans are theorizing that these sudden actions may be tied to therecent acquisition of Bungie by Sony, and lorcan0c did notice that some strikes were issued on the day of the announcement. Things seem to have escalated from there, up until yesterday’s huge takedown wave. While this is not necessarily the end for all the sunset soundtracks, as other fans have saved them and made them available through platforms like SoundCloud, it’s possible that Bungie doesn’t want its OSTs to be available to the public for copyright reasons. A statement on the company’s part would clear things up, but at the moment nothing’s emerged.
Destiny 2is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
