Destiny 2players want a classic feature from Year 1 to return to Strikes in the current Vanguard playlist. Although Lightfall introduced new Strikes and Seasonal activities, players reminisce about features that Bungie once prioritized in the early years ofDestiny 2.

In Strikes, a fireteam of three Guardians embark on a mission to destroy a high-value target at the very end of the activity. EachDestiny 2expansion adds new Strikes to the Vanguard playlist, allowing players to earn powerful and pinnacle rewards by participating every week. The trend continues in Lightfall with new activity modifiers and difficulty tuning, but players have begun to remember simpler times in the Vanguard playlist duringYear 1 ofDestiny2.

Reddit user ashiswin wants Year 1’s Strike variants to return toDestiny 2, and many fellow players in the community agree with the user. During Year 1, Strike variants would allowDestiny 2players to play through Strikes with slightly different enemies to defeat or objectives to complete. For example,Destiny 2’sSavathun’s Song Strike may send players down an alternate route with different dialogue and objectives before reaching the end boss. However, the Savathun’s Song Strike was vaulted, which means players no longer have access to this Strike in the playlist. As a result, some players wish Strike variants would return inSeason of the Deepand subsequent seasons, allowing them to explore their favorite Strikes with a slightly different perspective again.

Some players in the community believe Strikes have less value now when compared to the first few years ofDestiny 2. Nightfalls currently offer more compelling loot at a higher power level, allowingDestiny 2players to earn many rewards in a few runs. Others believe the Vanguard playlist needs more variety to bring more players into Strikes, and the return of Strike variants maybe a potential solution.

The originalDestinygameoffered exclusive loot per Strike, and the early years ofDestiny 2allowed players to experience different variants of the same Strike. Once the Destiny Content Vault was introduced with Beyond Light, the use of Strike variants seemingly faded away from the playlist. Although Bungie is steering clear of vaulting more content from expansions, the lack of Strike variants still disappoints many players in the community that continue to supportDestiny 2.

Destiny 2’sVanguard playlist still awards loot to those willing to participate in normal Strikes, but it’s clear that Bungie is focusing more on Nightfalls. Currently,Master and Grandmaster Nightfallsoffer some of the most prestigious loot inDestiny 2, and Seasonal activities appear to bring the variety that players currently desire in Strikes.

Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
