ADestiny 2player demonstrates how the Threadrunner Hunter’s Strand rope dart offers an unusual synergy with the Lumina hand cannon. And while this trick seems like it would take a bit of skill to pull off correctly, it’s easy to see whyDestiny 2players might find it incredibly useful in their adventures across the solar system.
Bungie launchedDestiny 2on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2017, and it’s also available on next-generation consoles. The first-person shooter MMORPG went free-to-play in 2019 and still enjoys around 800,000 players a day, depending on the source. In addition, Bungie provides the game with regular new content, the most recent beingDestiny 2’sLightfallexpansion, which launched in February.

Destiny 2player and Reddit user Xynopit recently discovered a very useful trick involving the Lumina hand cannon andDestiny 2’s Threadrunner Hunter’s Strand rope dart ability. They recorded themselves pulling it off and uploaded the clip to theDestiny 2Subreddit under the title “The Lumina Skate. The Lumina Skate Is Real!” The video demonstrates their creative use of the Lumina’s bullets to traverse great distances quickly.
After firing a single bullet, theDestiny 2player activates the Strand-powered grappling dart ability that Hunters get from unlocking theStrand subclasses added byDestiny 2: Lightfall. The dart latches onto the bullet, which drags the player through the air at high speed. Bungie presumably did not intend for players to be able to do this, but it seems quite useful nonetheless. TheDestiny 2player explained precisely how they pulled it off further down the thread, saying that players need to stand still, fire a Noble Round from the Lumina, then take a step forward before launching the grapple.
It’s unclear if the trick works with other weapons, with fans in the subreddit speculating over whether a rocket orLeviathan’s Breath arrowmight be too fast for it to work. Either way, the trick proved very impressive to Xynopit’s fellowDestiny 2fans, with the most upvoted comment saying that it wouldn’t have even occurred to them to try this. Still, as others pointed out, it should work on any surface or physics object, which applies to mostDestiny 2projectiles.
Another half-jokingly said that Xynopit should delete the Reddit post before Bungie tries to patch it out, with other players making similar comments. Hopefully, however, developers will leave this particular exploit inDestiny 2. After all, it’s not entirely unheard of for Bungie to turn certain bugs into features, and “Lumina Skating” definitely seems like something worth keeping.
Destiny 2is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
