ADiablo 4player recalled the unfortunate tale of losing their Hardcore Mode character following 89 hours of play and posted their reason for faltering on social media. OtherDiablo 4players sympathized with their plight after hearing this story and shared their tales of fallen heroes that were taken due to circumstances beyond their control.

InDiablo 4, one of the main challenges of the game is Hardcore Mode. Characters that die during Hardcore Mode are permanently dead, and the difficulty level of the game is increased to keep players on their toes at all times. As a result,Diablo 4players that make mistakes of their own volitiondo not last long in Hardcore Mode. However, the challenge is made all the more infuriating thanks toDiablo 4’s nature of being an always-online title that relies on the player’s connection to Blizzard’s servers as well as the servers being stable. However, one player discovered that Hardcore Mode runs can end in an instant.

On Reddit, a user named WulkingDead posted a tribute totheir fallen level 74 Barbarianon the r/Diablo subreddit. While barbarians are known for their skill with various weapons, WulkingDead’s character fell to the “environment” after completing the campaign and amassing over 15 million gold over 89 hours of playing time. The environment, in this case, referred toDiablo 4crashing on WulkingDead during combat, which caused them to disconnect from the game and subsequently left their Barbarian to meet a grizzly end. Suffice it to say, this did not sit well with the OP.

In the comments section, other Redditors paid respects to the fallen Barbarian but also called out Blizzard for allowing problems withDiablo 4and its servers to take characters away through no fault of the player. During a recent live stream, Blizzard responded to situations like this and announced its plans toprotect Hardcore Mode characters from disconnections and game crashesin a future content update forDiablo 4. But, there remains no timetable for implementing the fix at the time of writing, and it will not arrive when Season 1 launches next month.

While a fix will arrive too late for WulkingDead’s lost Barbarian, it may still prove to be useful to other characters in the future. In the meantime,Diablo 4’s Hardcore Mode players will need to stay vigilant toavoid losing a character after several hours of playtime.

Diablo 4is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
