The WaltDisneyCompany is set to celebrate its one-hundredth anniversary. Ahead of this October milestone, the company decided to celebrate with a video that serves as an ode to its iconic films.
The Walt Disney Company, orDisneyfor short, is one of the world’s most recognizable companies. It’s also responsible for some of the biggest franchises, like Kevin Feige’s MCU. Founded by Walt Disney, who lent the studio its name, and his friend, Ub Iwerks, the company began as an animation film studio before branching out into other arenas, such as theme parks, video games, and even live-action fare.

The video premiered on Super Bowl Sunday before being posted to Disney’s social media accounts. The commemoration features clips from all of Disney’s branches and franchises. Various modern franchises are featured - fromStar WarstoAvatarto Marvel to animated movies likeEncanto- but the video also features scenes from some of Disney’s most iconic movies. In addition, the company represented its fans with various clips of children excitedly reacting to their films and a cosplaying man proposing to his fiancee.
True to the mission statement ofsome of Disney’s best movies, the theme of the video is heavy on dreams. Part of Disney’s creative magic has always depended on wishes, dreams, and hopes, and the company decided to lean into this aspect of its franchise when making the video. The video is even dedicated to fans, whom Disney thanks for making its dream come true.
For its hundredth anniversary, Disney is attempting to recover some of the losses it experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Former CEOBob Iger was brought back to replace Bob Chapek- a move that inspired plenty of talk around Hollywood. His current goal appears to be focusing on stalwart franchises that have already proven they can bring in audiences.
In the spirit of that mission, Igerrecently announced sequels forToy Story,Frozen, andZootopia.Unfortunately, that announcement was accompanied by news of massive layoffs. It’s an odd dichotomy; though the studio is in a time of celebration, it’s also clearly in a difficult position that might take years to recover from. Though the current situation isn’t the easiest, perhaps the anniversary video can represent the start of a new era forDisneyas it enters its centennial year.
