Dying Light 2’s recent Gut Feeling update introduced a plethora of new content in the game, in some ways rehauling entire systems to better align them to the fanbase’s desire. Techland has always been solid when it comes to supporting its games and listening to its community, with this update makingbig changes toDying Light 2’s combat, making dismemberment gruesome, introducing gear transmog, adding gameplay mechanics like blueprints and weapon crafting, and introducing the Pilgrim Outpost (among bug fixes and the like).

Dying Light 2’s Pilgrim Outpostis a feature designed with longevity in mind and should not be overlooked as a result. Activating and completing daily and weekly in-game bounties will give players Pilgrim Reputation Points, Ranks, and Tokens, allowing players to find new weapons in the armory, get random gear through outpost drops, and find new Pilgrim Weapons. Recently, Techland’s senior PR specialist Paulina Dziedziak and publishing digital solutions lead Wojciech Michalak discussed this new feature and went behind the scenes on the creation, as well as the future, of this community service experience.

Dying Light 2’s Pilgrim Outpost: Its Creation and Purpose as a ‘Cross-Franchise Experience’

Michalak describes the Pilgrim Outpost as a “communication hub” for players to find new things to do in-game, complete new challenges, and meet otherDying Lightfans and be engaged with the game. This extends even outside the game because Techland wants it to be a truly immersive experience for fans. So much so, in fact, that Pilgrim Outpost offers a “cross-franchise experience” betweenDying Light 1andDying Light 2. Because the original game still has a strong fanbase after years of support, bounty rewards claimed inDying Light 2can be spent on cosmetics in the firstDying Light, or vice versa—bounty rewards claimed inDying Lightcan be spent inDying Light 2.

The creation of the Pilgrim Outpost, Michalak explains, came from community requests to see abigger, bolder universe aroundDying Light 2. Techland took this challenge on and wanted to make it big, seeing an opportunity in using the Pilgrim faction (which connects the last settlements of people in the game) to connect people in the real world too. That’s why Spike is the main character, of sorts, for the Pilgrim Outpost. As one of the first Pilgrims, he invites players to the outpost, explains how it works, and will be there in the future to guide players through its growth too. In fact, that may be one of the most exciting elements of the feature: its sheer breadth and potential within the community for years to come.

Dying Light 2’s Pilgrim Outpost Has a Bright Future Ahead

Of course, Michalak didn’t go into serious detail and make a ton of promises about the future of the Pilgrim Outpost, but there are two things he discussed that are potentially coming toDying Light 2.First, Techland is currently working on what he described as “Ranking Bounties,” challenges that Techland sets on the community that will rank player successes. For example, one challenge may be to see how many ofDying Light 2’s Volatilesplayers can kill in one night, with everyone able to see who came in 1st, 17th, 500th, and so on. In this way, it introduces a little competition in the community and new ways for fans to engage with it, but these bounties will also come with new rewards too.

The second thing, it would seem, fans should be patient for. It’s an exciting prospect given the nature of the Pilgrim Outpost website (especially on mobile devices), but to create the fully immersive, at-all-times experience Techland wants, the company is looking into a possible Mobile App in the future. There was something somewhat similar forDying Light 1available at one time, but this would be an altogether different beast. However, Michalak cautions that this is “difficult,” so fans shouldn’t expect this out soon. What fans can expect is for Techland to continuesupportingDying Light 2for several years, with its community in mind.

After all, Techland supported the original game for years, and it has the very same plans forDying Light 2. As explained in a recent interview with Game Rant, franchise director Tymon Smektalasaid, “I don’t want to compare us toDestinyor any other games as a service game, but that’s the direction in which we are going. We want to have the longevity ofDestiny. We want to have the longevity ofGrand Theft Auto Online. We want to have the longevity of other games in that space.” Pilgrim’s Outpost then is just one stop on that road forDying Light 2.

Dying Light 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
