Dying Light 2is just two weeks away from release, but there are still aspects of the game that have yet to be revealed. One of those areas isDying Light 2’s cooperative multiplayer functionality. It’s known thatDying Light 2will support up to 4 co-op players, so long as one player hosts the game. But it hasn’t been made clear how much ofDying Light 2is open to co-op. Techland has now clarified how much ofDying Light 2is open to co-op, and fans are likely to be very pleased with the answer.

In a tweet shared by Techland on Friday, the development team confirmed thatDying Light 2playerswill be able to play the vast majority of the game in co-op. Specifically, Techland says thatDying Light 2players will be able to “play AND finish” the game together while using co-op multiplayer. That doesn’t mean the entirety of it, however.

Dying Light 2 Co-Op Explained

The one caveat that Techland notes is that co-op won’t be available at the very beginning ofDying Light 2. The game features a prologue chapter, and this portion of the game will have to be played single-player. The section of the game will likely take place beforeDying Light 2’s open-worldopens up, and will likely run players through tutorial systems for gameplay. Co-op doesn’t necessarily make sense, as a result, though Techland probably considered the possibility.

While the prologue forDying Light 2will be single-player-only, theending ofDying Light 2will apparently still allow for co-op play. Techland says explicitly that it does “mean including the Epilogue.” How that works in practice, players will have to discover for themselves. Perhaps there will be a shared cutscene, but gameplay with otherwise remain in the same shared open world.

As for as co-op gameplay goes, it doesn’t get much better than what Techland’s managed withDying Light 2. There are still some downsides, of course. Having to have one player host the co-op session is somewhat limiting, for example. Techland has previously confirmed to Game Rant that only the host will have world progression during co-op, while co-op players will be limited to character progression. Perhaps that can be improved in thenextDying Lightgame.

Expect to find out Light 2’s cooperative multiplayergameplay as the game nears launch and early coverage begins to be shared. There’s likely more to the experience than simply joining another player’s game as necessary, but Techland has clearly done some exciting work inDying Light 2.
