A newEidos Montrealjob listing for a Junior Writer seeks an applicant with an “academic background in South Asian Studies and/or equivalent cultural knowledge” and a “background in science and/or technology.” Based onEidos Montreal’s currently known projects, it stands to reason that this information is needed for its new Deus Ex game.

As many fans know,Square Enix sold Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, among other assets, to Embracer Group in 2022. This came shortly after Square Enix was disappointed by Crystal Dynamics’Marvel’s Avengersand Eidos Montreal’sGuardians of the Galaxy, with many considering the latter one of the most underrated games of 2021. Moving on from there, though, Crystal Dynamics is reportedly working on a newTomb Raidergame and cooperating with Xbox’s Initiative studio onPerfect Dark. Eidos Montreal is said to be working on a new IP, developing anewDeus Exgame (reported to be in very early development in late 2022), and assisting Playground Games on the newFabletitle, per Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.

The criteria in the Junior Writer job listing largely include the standard expectations of the job, detailing how the writer will collaborate with others, provide narrative design support, develop worldbuilding content, write and edit dialogue, cinematic sequences, and more; and “manage scriptwriting and other deliverables under strict deadlines.” Listed under the “even better if you have section,” which details things beneficial to the job but not necessarily required to get hired, is the background in South Asian culture and science and technology.

As many no doubt know,Deus Exis a cyberpunk gamethat relies heavily on both science and technology. It has also gone world-hopping plenty of times, taking place in New York City, Cairo, Detroit, and Prague; therefore, the game going to South Asia would not come as a surprise. Of course, this job listing could theoretically be in reference to the new IP as well, but these qualifications screamDeus Ex.

Of course, it’ll be quite some time before anything regarding Eidos Montreal’s current projects manifest. It’s no secret thatFableis years away from release, a new IP takes years to produce,Deus Exwas in the earliest possible stages late last year, and some of this did not manifest/was likely interrupted by the purchase in 2022. Still, for fans of the franchise, this may be exciting news nonetheless.
