Developer FromSoftware is famous for creating games with unique, rich lore and settings alongside some combat that has caused rage in more than a few gamers over the years.Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice,Dark Souls, andBloodbornehave all met strong reviews from both users and critics and now FromSoftware’s latest release,Elden Ringis seeing a similar surge of popularity. Currently,Elden Ring is sitting as one the highest rated gamesof all time, and has been receiving the highest awards possible from multiple gaming sources.

However, not everything has been perfect for the gamein the days following its launch.Elden Ringfaced review bombing on Steamin the first few days after it dropped following complaints from PC gamers thatElden Ringwas poorly optimized for the platform. Though apatch forElden Ringwas released in the days following its launchwhich attempted to fix most of the performance issues, some players were still unhappy with the frames they were getting. Mostly, this was due toElden Ringlocking the frame rate of the game to be a maximum of 60FPS. This is nothing new for FromSoftware titles, as the most recent release by the studio beforeElden Ring,Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, also only allowed for play at 60FPS. A newElden Ringmod though is looking to push past this barrier.

The mod, which is now available on Github, can only be installed by PC players. This mod breaks the lockElden Ringhas on frame rates, allowing for around or even beyond 100FPS. Installing this mod does have a catch though, as it bypasses the anti-cheat software thatElden Ringhas. As the mod messes with the memory of the game as it runs, this means that players installing the mod won’t be able to utilize any of the online functions in the game, meaning thatfunny messages seen inElden Ringand co-op will not be available.

Moreover, shouldElden Ring’sdeveloper FromSoftware look into banning modders and cheaters, those who have brazenly bypassed the anti-cheat software could earn a ban rather easily. This has many questioning whether it’s worth installing the mod for a frame rate boost.

Elden Ringis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
