Elden Ringfeatures a huge array of weapons, shields, and magic that players can use to overcome the terrifying foes that await them in the Lands Between. Among these tools is the Coil Shield, a light shield that can conjure a snake head to bite at foes directly ahead of it.

Mt Gelmir’s Ninth Campsite
The ideal place to start from when seeking the coil shield is Mt Gelmir’s Ninth Campsite (Marked in red on the map above), which players exploring the Mt Gelmir region (likely seeking to continue the quest lines of Patches and/or Rya) will likely have stumbled across already.
For players who haven’t found it yet, it can be located by entering theMt Gelmir region of Altus Plateauvia the bridge. Players should then follow the road until finding a ladder on the left leading up the cliffs. Next players should continue progressing upward and forward through the cliffs until a rope bridge is found, with the Campsite on the far side of the bridge near a Spiritspring and a ladder. The Grace at this location is very close to the location of the Coil Shield and is an excellent place to set out from.
Volcano Cave
Headingnortheast from Mt Gelmir’s Ninth Campsiteand following the mountain’s curve, players will eventually find a place where they can drop down a hole safely (use rainbow stones thrown down the hole to check for a safe spot to land, they’ll shatter if the fall would kill) and double back on themselves to find a cave entrance (Marked in red on the map above).
Heading into Volcano cave, players shouldlook out for demi-humans, who appear in groups of five a little way in. After taking out the first group, heading through the tunnel in the northwest corner of the room will lead to a small room, and heading down the slope to the north in that room will lead to a room full of boxes. Four Demi-humans await in this room, so players should eliminate them before searching the room. One of the two corpses to the southeast of this room contains the Coil Shield.
The Coil Shield
The Coil Shield itself is asmall shield that blocks 52% of physical damage, while also having good poison, magic, light, and holy resistance. The Weapon Skill “Viper Bite” launches out a snake to bite foes at a surprisingly long distance, inflicting poison buildup when it hits, and costs only 8FP to use.
