Releasing in February, FromSoftware’sElden Ringis proving to be a game that was absolutely worth the hype. Its glorious open world and intensely challenging combat has made itone of the best selling games of the year so far, according to NPD Group. Yet despite how typically difficult this latest Soulsborne title is, there are some out there who make things even harder for themselves by speedrunning it as quickly as they can, and someone has just set the bar even higher for other players.

As spotted by PCGamesN, speedrunner SeekerTV has set a new world record inElden Ringby defeating it in less than five minutes. According to the splits on the video, the actual time is 4:59, which is an absolutely incredible time. It should be pointed out that this amazing feat was achieved thanks to the game’s infamous “zip glitch.” The video shows multiple instances of the player using the bug to skip past huge swathes of the map. Some may consider this breaking the spirit of a speedrun, but it’s completely within the rules of this particular category. As of writing, SeekerTV’s new record has yet to be added to Speedrun.com, but their previous time of 5:58 is currently at the number two spot.

Regardless of whether some feel this isn’t a “true” speedrun, it cannot be denied that finishing the game in less than five minutes is impressive. There are other categories that fans can run as well, such as when anotherElden Ringplayer finished in 2.5 hours without levelling upor even taking a single hit. A no-hit run of any game is indeed a challenging attempt, but to do so in this title feels like it would be near impossible. Yet user Ainrun was able to accomplish it, showing that there are different ways to play the game and that there are many talented people out there in the running community.

Elden Ringis also not the first time SeekerTV has managed to set a new world record. Back in April, they managed tospeedrunDoom 2016in a record timeof 18:26, which at that point was the quickest run. However, this has since been surpassed, with another player smashing that time record by completing the game in 17:52.

As previously mentioned,Elden Ringis one of the highest-selling games of 2022 so far, but in fact, it’s done even better than that. It’s actually gone down asone of the highest rated video games of all time. With so many people looking to try and get to the end credits as quickly as possible, it’s looking like FromSoftware’s latest release will be remaining at the top spot for a good while.

Elden Ringis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
