TheHarry Potterfandom remains in disarray as Emma Watson and her fellow cast members continue to hold an opposite stance on trans issues compared to series creator J.K. Rowling. Most recently, a debate about where their loyalties should lie has been sparked on social media, with both Watson and Rowling at the forefront of the conversation.
Oli London, an infamous British Internet personality known for his highly offensive views on transracialism, took to social media to voice his support for Rowling. He accused theHarry Pottercast of turning their backs on her to “please the woke crowd,” all while still profiting off of her success.

In his post, he specifically called out Watson and her two lead counterparts,Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, arguing that they each have made millions of dollars from Rowling and that they owe everything to her. London then labeled their lack of support for Rowling as disrespectful, making it clear that he stands with the author and her polarizing opinions. Naturally, London’s words caught the attention ofHarry Potterfans, with hundreds of users replying to his rage-fueled post.
A majority of people criticized his comments, saying that Watson, Radcliffe, and Grint are entitled to their own opinions and that they should not have to defend her, especially when the things she says go against what they personally believe in. Other people, including some who agree with Rowling’s position, argued that iftheHarry Pottercastowes her anything, it’s gratitude, not worship, as London asserts. London then proceeded to bring Ezra Miller into the fold, claiming the existence of a double standard when it comes to Rowling and theFantastic Beastsstar.
He slammed Warner Bros. for banishing Rowling from her ownHarry Potterreunion but still keeping Miller on the latest franchise film,The Secrets of Dumbledore, despite his history of violence and assault. He also called detractors of Rowling hypocrites for attempting to silence her for “supporting women,” while allegedly turning a blind eye to Miller’s abusive behaviors. Many fans stopped responding to London after he posted these tweets.
In the meanwhile, theHarry Pottercast reportedly has no bad blood with Rowling despite their difference of opinion on trans issues. According toWatson’s co-star Evanna Lynch, who played Luna Lovegood in the film series, the entire cast still respects Rowling and their primary goal is to find ways to heal rather than continue fighting. Miriam Margoyles, anotherHarry Potteralum, made a few statements supporting Lynch’s claims, and even went as far as to say that the “vituperation she has received seems misplaced.”
