When the newestStar Warsseries,Obi-Wan Kenobihits Disney Plus later this month, it could be bringing another well known villain along with it. While fans have known for a while now thatDarth Vader is set to appearin the new series in some fashion, it appears his boss, Emperor Palpatine is going to pop up as well.

There are actually two new entries into theStar Warsfranchise that wil technically take viewers back to before the events of the original trilogy. In both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor, the stories of what happened as the empire rose to real power and started taking over the galaxy. They will also show the birth of the rebellion, and what some of the most popular characters in the franchise were doing before audiences were introduced to Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.

Ian McDiarmid who has playedEmperor Palpatine sinceThe Phantom Menace, appeared at the Imperial Commissary Collectors Convention and spilled a bit of tea during his panel discussion. The actor said that there was “a certain show” coming very soon that was set around the time period where the emperor was very active. He added that he couldn’t comment as to whether the show would involve him physically appearing but that the character’s “presence” will certainly be felt.

The comments, of course, need to be taken with a grain of salt but it would certainly make sense for Palpatine to at least appear on-screen ordering Vader to a certain place or to do a certain thing. The same could be said for any number of other characters that are going to behunting down Jedi like Obi-Wanin the upcoming Disney Plus series.

One of those Jedi hunters, theGrand Inquisitorwill absolutely be taking order from the empire, and it would only make sense that Palpatine will appear as some form of hologram at the very least to give the character his instructions. It seems there would be plenty of opportunities for Palpatine to make an appearance if the showrunners wanted to go in that direction.

It would also make sense for bothObi-Wan KenobiandAndorto include the character in the overarching story as it would help both shows better tie back into the movies that birthed them. Now audiences will just have to sit back and wait to see if there might be an important cameo on the horizon.
