Meanwhile in the water, the Oarfish has rowed out to colder waters in favor of the Mahi-Mahi and Giant Trevally, but the number of new entrants all-round far exceeds the departures.

Unsurprisingly, the spring andsummer months are the most plentifulof the year, meaning any players out to complete their encyclopedias have a lot of hunting to do over the coming months.

Here’s a breakdown of all the new additions to the northern hemisphere’s bug and fish rosters, along with details on when and where to find them, how long they’re around for, and how much the Nooks are willing to part with for them. Remember thattraveling bug fanatic Flickwill buy them for an extra 50% of what’s on offer at Nook’s Cranny, while C.J. the beaver will do the same for fish.

New Fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Angelfish

Small shadows spawning in rivers from May through to October could be an Angelfish and, for a whopping 3,000 bells sale price at Nook’s Cranny, they’re not to be sniffed at.Angelfish can be caughtbetween 4pm and 9am, so fishers should be wary of scorpions roaming their islands at the same time.

Betta

From 9am to 4pm, small shadows in rivers have a solid chance of being the colorful Betta fish. Selling for 2,500 bells, the Betta will be around until October.

Catfish

Selling for 800 bells, the large Catfish frequents ponds from 4pm to 9am from now until October, although career fishers might better spend their time trying their luck with the Angelfish.

Frog

Worth more to the average player as a live-in buddy, the humble Frog only sells for 120 bells at Nook’s Cranny. Hanging around ponds as small shadows all day long, the Frog will disappear again in August.

Giant Trevally

This monster can be spied from piers around the clock, and is worth the time of every patient fisher. Selling for 4,500 bells, it will be one of two fish spawning for the foreseeable as the largest shadow in the sea. Disappearing again in September, there’s plenty of time tostumble upon the giant fishfor the persistent pier checker.

Mahi-Mahi

Maybe best known for having beenAwful-Awful at Monica Geller’s restaurant inFriends, there’s nothing of the kind to be said for this particularly prized fish. Worth a massive 6,000 bells and spawning all day round as the Giant Trevally’s largest shadow counterpart, the Mahi-Mahi is available until October.

Nibble Fish

Not all river fish were created equal, but theNibble Fish isn’t the worst thing to haul in. The Nooks will take them for 1,500 bells, and as the smallest shadow they can’t be mistaken for the larger Betta. Nibble Fish can be found between 9am and 4pm until September, although they have some competition as the smallest fish for their entire season.

Rainbowfish

Like the other smallest fish to join in May, the Nibble Fish, the Rainbowfish is available in rivers between 9am and 4pm. They linger for an extra month than the Nibble Fish, leaving in October. At a paltry 800 bells, almost half the value of their nibbling cousins, the Rainbowfish is sure to become an unwelcome sight over the coming months.

New Bugs

Banded Dragonfly

Flitting around every corner of the island in place of the Darner variant of recent weeks, theBanded Dragonfly is availablefrom 8am to 5pm and sells for a very notable 4,500 bells. By October, it’ll be too cold for these popular sights to spawn.

Diving Beetle

Theslightly unnerving Diving Beetlewill be resting on top of ponds and rivers from 8am to 7pm until September, but the time spent earning its measly 800 bells sale price is better spent elsewhere.

Animal Crossing New Horizons Rover

Great Purple Emperor

Any streak of purple seen around the island from now until August is worth investigating, asthe Great Purple Emperor butterflyworth 3,000 bells each and hang around from 4am to 7pm each day.

Pondskater

Blink and you’ll miss it, but for only 130 bells there’s no reason to lose sleepover the missed chance. Pondskaters will be dancing atop ponds and rivers until September, and appear each day between 8am and 7pm.

Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing

Thebiggest and rarest new bugon offer is the Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing, selling for 4,000 bells and appearing island-wide from 8am to 4pm until September.

Rosalia Batesi Beetle

Appearing on tree stumps day and night from now until September, thegorgeous Rosalia Batesi Beetlesells for a cool 3,000 bells. If there’s a reason to let sleeping stumps lie, this beetle is it.

Scorpion

At a sale price of 8,000 bells,sneaking up on a Scorpionis worth the risk. Appearing between 7pm and 4pm until October, this deadly critter can be tricky to catch but is well worth the effort. They can be found anywhere on land, so constant vigilance is wise.

Violin Beetle

Found stuck to trees all day between May and November, the Violin Beetle only sells for 450 bells. Still, they’re a trusty specimen if players fancy giving Blathers a fright and they add some soothing ambiance to the island’s soundtrack.

Everything Else

May Day Tour

From May 1 to 7, players can receive a May Day ticket from Tom Nook to spend at the airport. The journey takes players to a special maze island, complete with clever puzzles and worthwhile rewards and resources to collect. Anyone who completes the maze will also get a chance to meetAnimal Crossingstalwart, Rover.

International Museum Day

From May 18 to 31, a special event will behosted at the museum. By collecting stamps whilst visiting the museum and checking out the exhibits, players will unlock prizes and rewards recognizing their efforts in populating it. It’s also a great excuse to wander the exhibits and see just how far it’s all come along.
