Babylon’s Fallis an upcoming action RPG that has had a lot of fans excited since its announcement. The game is coming from publisher Square Enix and developer Platinum Games, which by itself garnered a lot of excitement from fans of both companies. The game has been sparse on details thus far except for a gameplay trailer and a very minor update, but still has enough to have fans excited aboutBabylon’s Fallheading into E3 2021.

Babylon’s Fallshort E3 2018 teaser trailershows off a series of impressive art stills alongside bits of lore about the game world’s history and major events. Setting up a dark fantasy world full of strife and religious intrigue, the first trailer ended with a scene showing a large knight about to strike down a smaller figure. The more diminutive form then reaches out with some kind of energy tendrils to disarm and strike down the figure.

Babylon’s Fall: Dark World, Fast Combat

Fast forward a year later, Sony’s2019 State of Play showed offBabylon’s Falland its fast-paced action gameplay. The signature style of Platinum Games shines through almost immediately, as lightning-fast action is a staple of the Platinum Games stable of action games likeBayonetta. The player-controlled character seems to be able to control multiple weapons at a time by wielding one normally and manifesting swords around them similar to the energy tendrils. This is very reminiscent of the spectral swords that Vergil and Dante fromDevil May Cry 5can manifest and seems to add defensive elements alongside the offensive ones.

The trailer forBabylon’s Fallalso shows off one of its bosses: a gargantuan knight enemy that would be right at home inDark Soulsor the aforementionedDevil May Cry. It seems likeSquare Enix is doubling down on its action offeringsandBabylon’s Falldoesn’t disappoint in that regard. The trailer ends with a cinematic finish to the boss where the player character uses the energy tendrils, spawning from a disc or some other artifact on their back, to seize the knight’s weapon and strike him down. This echoes the first trailer’s ending and is a climactic finish to the trailer, seen below.

The last update onBabylon’s Fallcame last yearand was the kind of disappointing news fans had come to expect throughout 2020. Covid-19 had its development team working from home and had caused delays. Square Enix stated last year that it wasn’t ready to show off any new gameplay. Now that things are slowly returning to normal, however, fans are looking forward to seeingBabylon’s Fallin action at this E3 2021. Square Enix has confirmed the game will be highlighted during its presentation this upcoming Sunday, so those excited aboutBabylon’s Fallwill likely be getting a fresh taste of what’s to come.
