Elden Ringhas been out for a few months now and, as plenty of Tarnished have made their way through the Lands Between on a quest to become Elden Lord, many players have thoroughly enjoyed their time with FromSoftware’s latest RPG. Fans have shown their love forElden Ringin multiple ways, from building on the game with mods, to already saying that it should be considered for 2022’s game of the year, to creating incredible pieces of fan art depicting characters, environments, and more from the RPG.
Recently, oneElden Ringfan created a rather unique piece of fan art. Specifically, user notramilopak on Reddit showed off their interpretation of what a Soulsborne game set in theWarhammer 40Kuniverse would look like. The grimdark nature ofWarhammer 40Kwould appear to fit well with the gritty settings that FromSoftware usually creates in thelore ofDark Souls,Bloodborne,Sekiro, andElden Ring. However, this concept led to a heated debate in the comments of notramilopak’s post.

SomeElden Ringplayers were hyped at the idea of aWarhammer 40Kcrossover, imagining units from the Tyranid, Ork, andChaos Factionsof the tabletop wargame making for some great bosses and normal enemies. Others believed that while a sci-fi Soulsborne title would be interesting,Warhammerwasn’t the setting for it. The argument was made that if aWarhammerSoulsborne featured the iconic Space Marines, then it would be tough to make regular enemies feel as powerful as they do in other FromSoftware titles.
This is because not many individual creatures could take out a Space Marine in three or four hits as a zombie can inElden Ring, for example. The toughness of Space Marines usually has games such as theupcomingWarhammer 40K:Space Marine 2showing the enhanced warriors obliterating waves of orks, tyranids, and other enemies. This would mean that while the bosses of aWarhammer 40KSoulsborne game could be incredible, it would be difficult to plan out the rest of the game while maintaining the difficulty fans would expect.
To solve this, one commenter pointed out that, rather than let the playable character be a Space Marine, a player could instead make their own Imperial Guard, a much weaker character from theWarhammer 40Ksetting. However, even in games with Imperial Guard as the focus, such as thenew action title fromVermintidedevelopersDarktide, the gameplay ofWarhammer 40Ktitles often focuses on horde-based combat, throwing as many enemies at the player as possible rather than making a group of two or three foes feel devastating.
Elden Ringis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
