In a surprising announcement, Ubisoft recently announced thatFar Cry 6’s Joseph Seed: Collapse DLC would release on February 8. This appears to be good news for fans who have been following the DLC, as each features a secret ending that ties into some greater meta-story.Joseph Seed’s, as the last DLC, will likely feature a secret endingas big, if not bigger, than Vaas’ or Pagan Min’s DLC.

The reason that thisFar Cry 6news is so surprising is that it is releasing way earlier than intended (a month plus, as it was first set for March). Video game delays are nothing new, but releasing one much sooner than anticipated is practically unheard of and usually comes with a big reason. For example, Ubisoft did move upAssassin’s Creed Valhalla’s release date to coincide with the Xbox Series X release, but that’s notably a recent—but also 2020—example.

This poses the question of why Ubisoft is moving up Joseph Seed’s DLC release and if it’s as a good thing as it would seem at first. Ubisoft itself hasn’t revealed why the DLC was moved up from its March window to the very beginning of February, not even a full month afterPagan Min’s DLCwas released.

Why Ubisoft is Potentially Releasing Far Cry 6 Joseph Seed: Collapse DLC Early

The most likely, and the best reason, is that it finished withJoseph Seedahead of schedule. It’s not exactly like Ubisoft reinvents the wheel with each of these DLCs, as mechanically they are all very similar—roguelikes, similar weapons, enemies, realms, and overarching goals. It could be that, thanks to Vaas and Pagan Min’s DLC release, Joseph Seed’s DLC had a few advantages in terms of developing its content.

In that case, this is pretty good for fans of the DLC run thus far. It means that they get to check out Joseph’s DLC and his secret ending ahead of schedule with no real string attached, but it feels odd that Ubisoft didn’t come out and say this when it announced the early release date. Other potential reasons, such as outside influences, could be slightly more concerning depending on context. WhileFar Cry 6DLC has been rather short and sweet, Ubisoft is releasingDawn of Ragnarok forAssassin’s Creed Valhalla—perhaps the studio wanted to create some space between its DLC releases.

It could be that Ubisoft is ready to move on and just accelerated the DLC, in order to focus on other projects. Again, though, it’s not reinventing the wheel and so it may have just focused on speed. At the same time, for non-Season Pass owners who have been purchasing it piecemeal, this presents a conundrum a March release could have avoided: a busyvideo-game filled February 2022.

Releasing the Joseph Seed DLC, which would only take a few hours at most, betweenreleases likeDying Light 2andHorizon Forbidden Westreally isn’t the strongest tactic. Sure, fans can play it and beat it in a day in this nice little buffer period, but there are certainly those who wouldn’t put down either title to play Joseph Seed’s DLC, meaning it could be overshadowed.

Overall, it’s hard to say for sure. It’s not exactly that this early release date spells ruin forFar Cry 6’s Joseph Seed DLC, but it seems that any good aspects would have been mentioned as well. No matter the reasoning, though, fans can judge it for themselves in just a few days.
