Fate/Samurai Remnantfollows Miyamoto Iori as he gets dragged into the “Waxing Moon Ritual.” This ritual, uncannily similar to the Holy Grail Wars found elsewhere in the Fate franchise, has seven Masters/Aspirants summon seven Servants/Heroic Spirits to fight in a battle to the death. The Master/Servant pair left standing may have their wish granted.

Fate/Samurai Remnantis an action RPG developed by Omega Force and published by Koei Tecmo, in collaboration with TYPE-MOON studio BB. The game’s combat is similar in many respects to the various Warriors games developed by Omega Force in the past. This guide will explain how to deal with enemies that are guarding against Iori’s attacks.

How to Guard Break

When an enemy is guarding they will not take damage from Iori’s normal attacks and will retaliate with a powerful strike of their own if the player continues hitting them. Obviously, this is an issue when trying to deal damage, so here are the ways Iori can deal with enemy guards.

The first option players have is to use Iori’s magecraft, such as the basic fire spell he begins the game with. Magecraft will break the enemy’s guard and leave them vulnerable, allowing Iori to damage them with his swords again. Valor Strikes can also break the enemy’s guard, assuming players have the meter full and are able to use them. Another option, which becomes available during the prologue, is to use affinity attacks.Saber can use affinity attacks to effortlessly pierce the enemy’s guardwhile also doing a decent amount of damage, and tends to also hit other enemies in the vicinity when doing so.

The third option players have is to wait the enemy out and then dodge when they drop their guard to attack. They will be left vulnerable for a short time after attacking, allowing Iori to land attacks on them without fear of reprisal. This method tends to be less efficient than the previous two since the previous two methods will stun the enemy for a short time. Additionally, waiting for the enemy to drop their guard and dodging takes a lot longer than simply using magecraft or Saber’s affinity attacks.

Learning how to break an enemy’s guard is crucial to mastering the combat system in Fate/Samurai Remnant, and these are the ways of doing it. In terms of availability, Magecraft can be a bit tricky since Iori runs out of gems quite quickly (at least during the early stages of the game), and Valor Strikes require players to have the meter full and ready to go, so players will likely be relying on Saber to guard break most of the time early on.
