Final Fantasy 14’s creatures often steal the show, even if briefly and through minor appearances. For the players who fall in love with them, be it due to their adorable looks or the humor associated with them, it’s often possible to find thesecreatures in minion form, making it possible to journey through Eorzea and beyond with the little companions.
One example of that is the nutkin, a cute little squirrel who became something of a meme around the community after a scene with Thancred. The creature is available in-game as a minion, and there are a couple of different ways the player can acquire it. Here, we explain each of them so you may get your own nutkin inFF14!

How To Get The Nutkin Minion In FF14
The nutkin can be acquired through a few different means. It isn’t a minion sold for real money, so players who would not like to spend more have nothing to worry about. The main difference when it comes to how to acquire the nutkin is that some methods heavily rely on luck, which can make it take a long time before the minion is acquired through most methods.
The first method through which the player can get the nutkin is through treasure maps. For those who don’t know,Final Fantasy 14’s many activities include treasure hunts, in which players decipher maps to discover a treasure’s location. There, they have to battle one or more monsters to claim their reward.

The nutkin can be one of those rewards from one specific map: theUnhidden Leather Map. This kind of map can only be acquired in the loot of other treasure maps. More specifically, it can sometimes be found as a reward to Timeworn Archaeoskin, Boarskin, Dragonskin, Goatskin, Leather, Peisteskin, Toadskin, and Wyvernskin Maps. Even after the map is acquired, it is not guaranteed that the treasure found with it will grant the player the nutkin minion, only that there is a chance it might happen.
This minion can also be unlocked if the player is lucky enough to get it fromBronze-trimmed Sacks. These are obtained through collecting Accursed Hoards from the first level to the fiftieth in the Palace of the Dead, one ofFinal Fantasy 14’s deep dungeons.

TheFête Presents, rewards given to players who achieve a high rating in the fêtes that happen aspart of the Ishgardian Restoration, can also reward players with the nutkin minion. Similarly to the previous methods, this reward offers several different prizes, with the player receiving something at random. Once again, it isn’t guaranteed an attempt will unlock the minion, but this is one of the possible ways to acquire it.
The same goes for theMateriel Container 3.0, which can be purchased by those of Captain rank inany of the Grand Companiesfor 20000 Grand Company Seals. It can yield the nutkin minion, but there are manyother minions it can unlock, and even two mounts. Because of that, what dictates whether the player will get the nutkin (or how many tries will be necessary) is simply lucky.
For those who don’t care to unlock the minion directly anddon’t mind spending some gil, there is a much easier alternative. The nutkin is marketable, which means it is often sold on Market Boards and can be acquired directly. Its price can vary greatlyfrom one data center to another, with some keeping the prices between 8,000 and 13,000 gil, while the price of others can be as high as 75,000 gil or more.
