Final Fantasy 7 Remakemet some hurdles before finally seeing its release on April 10. It should have launched on March 3, but Square Enix pushed it back due to snags in its development.
The game’s release was thrown out of whack again when the coronavirus pandemic started to get out of hand. Instead of being delayed this time around, though, it was released early in multiple parts of the world, allowing some to get their hands on it before others. But neither delays or early releases have put a damper onFinal Fantasy 7 Remake’s official launch, as according to Square Enix, between the game’s physical and digital sales, it managed to sell over 3.5 million copies within its first three days. This milestone quite possibly makesFinal Fantasy 7 Remakethe fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive of all time, as the original record holder,Spider-Man PS4, only sold 3.3 million copieswithin the same time frame.
In all fairness, though,Final Fantasy 7 Remake’simpressive saleshad a lot of different factors going for it that arguably helped it overtakeSpider-Man. People have been asking for anFF7Remakesince gaming hit its stride in graphics — so for about ten years, give or take. The hype around it was also infectious, leading newcomers to find interest in the title as well.
And while the coronavirus may have caused some worry with the game’s release initially, it also probably played a significant role in its sales. Enforced quarantine and the practice of social distancing have left people confined to their homes. And what better way to spend the excess time than through a new video game, especially one sowell-loved asFF7.
Nevertheless,Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s success is commendable, and it won’t stop with just the PlayStation. Square Enix only plans to haveRemakeas a PlayStation exclusive for a year. So the game will probably hit other systems come Jul 09, 2025, though precisely which ones remain a mystery. However, Square Enix did inadvertently confirm aPC version ofFF7Remakethe day it launched.
It’s also likely that Square will release the game on Xbox as well. The company already decided to bring moreFinal Fantasytitlesto the console, so it only makes sense that it would includeFF7Remakein that.
