Warner Bros. has unveiled the first official trailer for its highly-anticipated DC filmBlack Adam, which looks to hit theaters soon in the coming months. The brand-new film will star Dwayne Johnson as the emblematic god-like figure and comes from director Jaume Collet-Serra, who previously worked with Johnson on Disney’s 2021 projectJungle Cruise.
Black Adamwill focus on Johnson’s character and the events that ensued following his release from his earthly tomb after nearly 5,000 years of imprisonment. The arrival of Black Adam’s unique form of justice and god-like abilities into the modern world will put the ancient character against the Justice Society of America in what is sure to be an epic collision. The slave turned God kneels before no one, and looks to be a challenge for those attempting to stand in his way.

The trailer open by providing some backstory, revealing thatBlack Adam was enslaveduntil his eventual death at the hand of his enslaver. However, the ultimate sacrifice given by Black Adam’s son allowed him to be reborn, equipped with the powers of the Egyptian gods, showcased by his ability to effortlessly withstand bullets. Black Adam appears to be driven by the trauma locked in his past, and it’ll be interesting to see how the film navigates his emotional and physical journey.
As stated, the upcoming film will usher in the arrival of the Justice Society of America, an iconic group that rises to prevent Black Adam from becoming the destroyer of the modern world. The superhero group includes Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate,Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. “In this world there are heroes and villains. Heroes don’t kill people,” expressed Hawkman an attempt to reason with the god-like figure, butBlack Adammakes it clear that he in fact does kill people, creating an interesting tussle between two competing forces of justice.
Black Adamwill be the first live-action superhero film for Johnson, who looked to make his debut as the emblematic figure in 2019’sShazambut saw the role shelved after the spinoff for his character was announced for development. The film was initially set to release during the summer but suffered delays due to a jammed VFX pipeline. The pandemic put several productions on hold, but with things surging back to life, most VFX houses became overcrowded with work.Black Adamwill now arrive in theatersfor audiences in October, one of the few announced DC films sticking to its original 2022 release.
Black Adamhas been a passion project for Johnson for quite a while, and it’ll be intriguing to see how appealing the DC film will be for audiences being introduced to this character for the first time.
