Following the release of today’sDestiny 2Europa trailer, Bungie updates expectant fans with detail about the new destination in theBeyond Lightexpansion. Among the new media is the full overworld map of Europa, and its major points of attraction.
Bungie also revealed today the return of a major character toDestiny 2, Variks, the Loyal. He was found on the Reef during the first game and fled to an unknown location just before theForsakenstory campaign. He will be a key character inBeyond Light.

The map roughly outlines how the player’s journey on Europa begins.Variks, having lead to the frozen moonby the House of Darkness, sends out a distress call using a decrepit Golden Age communications center on Europa.
He meets the player in a zone called “Beyond” to investigate the ominous pyramid and observe the conflict between Light and Dark. From there, it is safe to assume that the player will reunite with the Exo Stranger who instigates theacquisition of Stasis abilities. Game Director Luke Smith had stated that the road to adopting Stasis will naturally weave through the campaign, so it is likely that the player’s quest with the Exo Stranger will involve this endeavor.
Then there is “Asterion Abyss,” the tip of a massive Vex structure lodged into Europa’s crust. Since the reveal, these constructs have reminded the players of The Pyramidion on Io, and it is possible that there are multiple Pyramidions across the Solar System. It remains to be seenhow the Vex will get involved in the storyas they aren’t the primary antagonists.
To the north is “Eventide Ruins,” the ramshackle remains of a colony complex once home to thousands of Clovis Bray residents. The map image suggests that this area will have a landing zone alongside Beyond all the way to the south. Europa looks massive, so it’s questionable whether 2 landing zones will satisfy the playerbase. Two years ago,the Dreaming Citywas criticized for having only one landing zone at the corner of the map.
Last, but certainly not least, is “Cadmus Ridge” to the west. It houses what is believed to be the Braytech Exoscience lab, not to be confused with the Exo birthplace of Deep Stone Crypt,which is where theDestinyRaid takes place. What is most interesting about this place is the indication of a public, destination-exclusive activity at the edge of the map indicated by a highlighted white circle node.
Fans had expected Europa to have a unique activity as the previous expansions, and it looks like Bungie will deliver that experience in this release too.Europa has already been praisedfor its striking visual style, expansive and varied landscapes as well as its deep lore. This map only reassures fans that there will indeed be plenty to explore on this frigid tundra.
Destiny 2: Beyond Lightwill be available on November 10 for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The PS5 version should be available November 12.
