Kirby and the Forgotten Landappears to be making many bold decisions in its translation of the longtime 2D-platformer into 3D. A still ofKirbyfishing in one of the title’s sub-games has taken over the internet, with one fan editing a multitude of other video game characters in to give Kirby some company.
It is pretty incredible that it tookKirbyreaching its 30th Anniversaryfor the series to finally make a proper 3D title. Aside fromKirby: Air-Ride, the cult favorite Kirby racing title on the GameCube, there hasn’t been a genuine 3DKirbygame. Admittedly, many of the series' titles over the last 15 or so years have utilized 3D graphics, they have still been 2D platformers, makingKirby and the Forgotten Landall the more special. In the new trailer, players got an extended look at the gameplay, showcasing the delicate balance of platforming and combat, as well as the return of the series staple sub-games.

Twitter user AKoolKoopa has edited a part of theKirby and the Forgotten Landtrailer so that he has more friends to fish with. Originally the trailer simply showed Kirby in a sunhat with Bandana Waddle Dee beside him, casually fishing with one another, but for AKoolKoopa, there was potential for more characters. Their edit brings a handful ofother game characters who have fishing mechanics in their titles, includingThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s Link, Joker fromPersona 5, and of course, the iconic Big the Cat from theSonicseries as well as many others. The tweet is currently sitting at over 40k likes and 9k retweets.
Naturally, AKoolKoopa’s replies are filled with people suggesting more characters for them to add, or who they wish were included in the first place. For example, user FewFewTheFue editedNier: Automata’s 2Binto AKoolKoopa’s image, the character never using a fishing rod but her iconic Pod companion instead, which can be seen submerged in the background.
Some other suggestions from the comment section include Noctis fromFinal Fantasy 15, and Steve fromMinecraft, as well as some more outlandish suggestions, like some Miis fromMiitopia, and the user character fromToonTown.
Kirby and the Forgotten Landis set to have co-op multiplayer, the player being able to bring a friend into the action as Waddle Dee. If only all of these characters could actually join in on their adventure too.
Kirby and the Forgotten Landlaunches March 25 only on Nintendo Switch.
