The rain in miHoYo’s RPGGenshin Impactis an important feature because of how it interacts with players, but oneGenshin Impactfan recently noticed an inconsistency with the weather systems. Prepared with a clip of entering and exiting Inazuma City, this player showed that the weather changes upon entering city areas.
Reddit user Shexxar696 recently shared a clip of a raining Inazuma inGenshin Impactthat begins with the player just outside of the nearby city. Climbing the stairs to Inazuma City from the North-East side, the thunder and lightning stopped just as quickly as the rain did and the gloomy sky quickly dissolved into a beautiful sunset with fluffy clouds. Not content simply to show the weather changing upon entering the city area, Shexxar696 also left the city in order to see if the weather would return to the dark wetness that it was before.

After leavingGenshin Impact’s Inazuma Cityin Shexxar696’s video, the rain immediately started pouring alongside cherry blossoms and the lighting began striking from the sky again. Returning to the city once more, the weather cleared up as it did the first time which showed the city’s impeccable ability to stay dry. Despite sticking to just Inazuma in their video, Shexxar696 claims that this is consistent in other cities when it’s raining in the nearby area but not in the central hub.
Because of howGenshin Impact’s lightningand rain interact with the environment and players, it’s likely that miHoYo disables the weather in cities to prevent other issues from arising. While it may look strange to gamers who don’t playGenshin Impactto see weather change so suddenly, it’s likely due to things like the possibility of lightning striking players or rain preventing them from cooking with fireplaces found in the city. There are exceptions to this drastic weather system change inGenshin Impactcities such as during the Archon Dragon Storm Quest, but outside of storylines, players won’t encounter lightning or rain in cities.
The region of Inazuma portrayed in Shexxar696’s clip is also known toGenshin Impactplayers for being a particularly lightning-heavy area, which is fitting considering the nation worships Raiden Shogun, the Electric Archon. Once a player is struck by lightning inGenshin Impact, they lose all of their Energy and take a big chunk of damage. Rain is less intrusive for players beyond impeding the ability to cook, but like many other weather systems in games such asAssassin’s Creed ValhallaorThe Witcher 3, it adds to miHoYo’s ability to immerseGenshin Impactplayers in the world of Teyvat.
Genshin Impactis available right now for mobile, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and PS5.
