AsGhost of Tsushima’s second act nears its end, Jin and Yuna have little time to dwell on the tragic events of “A Reckoning in Blood.” Jin, more than any other point inGhost of Tsushima,is being pulled in two opposite directions. On the one hand, he is Lord Sakai, head of his clan and now heir to his uncle’s legacy. On the other hand, he is the Ghost, a mythical hero who sheds any notion of honor or morality when dealing with the Mongol invaders. These two personas cannot exist at the same time, and by the end of Act 2, only one will remain.

“The Fate of Tsushima” is ultimately the first in a two-part mission to re-take Castle Shimura from the Mongols. With the Shogun’s reinforcements now on the island, Jin will have to set aside his grief in order to help Lord Shimura reclaim his castle. However, when Lord Shimura begins to put his so-called honor above the lives of his soldiers, Jin will make a decision that will alter their relationship for the rest of the game.

How to Start ‘The Fate of Tsushima’ in Ghost of Tsushima

To begin “The Fate of Tsushima,” Jin must head back to the war camp where “A Reckoning in Blood” began. It is located in the heavy bamboo thickets of the Old Toyotama Hills, found very close to the middle of the Toyotama region.

When Jin arrives at the front gate, he’ll find several samurai reinforcements sent by the Shogun. A brief cutscene will automatically start when Jin crosses the threshold. Then, before Jin meets with his uncle,he must speak with Yuna. He has the option of speaking with the rest of his allies as well.

Objectives:

Jin can speak with all four of his remaining allies before meeting Yuna. They are all near the center arena, so don’t venture too far looking for them. Once that is complete, head inside to speak with Yuna. They will have a brief discussion about Taka, and about the upcoming fight. Jin offers some surprisingly personal words, bordering on romantic. When the conversation concludes, head out to speak with Lord Oga, the samurai from the front gate.

Lord Oga will escort Jin up the hill to meet his uncle. Shimura will be waiting at the top of the watchtower to speak with Jin. The Shogun has agreed to Lord Shimura’s adoption request. When the fighting is done, Jin will become the heir to the ruler of Tsushima island, and all that entails. When the scene is done, “The Fate of Tsushima” will begin in earnest.

Help Lord Shimura Re-Take his Castle

The samurai forces will line up and charge into the Mongols holding the outskirts of the castle grounds. Jin will automatically jump from his horse once he enters the fray.

Jin will face a large group of Mongolsoutside the castle’s front gate. The most dangerous part of this fight will be the Mongol archers firing from the top of the castle walls. Take them out before facing the ground forces to make the fight much easier.

Breach Both Gates:

Once the first group of Mongols has been dealt with, a brief cutscene will show a battering ram taking down the outer gate. Head through the gate and fight the next group of Mongols. There will be more archers taking aim at the group from further down the path. They are on flat ground and easy to spot, so take them out first once again.

Jin will break through a second gate, entering another large, leveled courtyard. Archers will fire from the higher level, then from a perch above the final gate. Taking them out first is, once again, a wise course of action.

Once Jin has cleared this courtyard, the action will pause for a moment, giving Jin a chance to gather any supplies he may need from around the area. There are several small stockpiles ofammunition forGhost of Tsushima’s Ghost Weaponsfor Jin to use throughout the courtyard. When ready, Jin must find a way around the wall to scout ahead.

Jin Uses Poison and Slaughters the Mongol Leader

As Jin scouts ahead for his uncle, he sees a massive group of Mongol soldiers, led by another nameless Mongol leader. Instead of opening the gate, Jin poisons several of the soldiers, then jumps down and slaughters the leader. Right as Jin is performing the decapitation,Lord Shimura breaks the gate downand bears witness to the Ghost in action.

While Shimura is lecturing Jin on honor, the Mongols proceed to kill several samurai with their hwacha.

Jin can push straight through to the hwacha tower, avoiding most of the combat in between. Watch for the circular AOE indicators, as that is where the hwacha fire will land.

Use the Hwacha Against the Mongols:

When Jin has killed the operators, he will be able to use the hwacha. Jin’s fire won’t hurt any of his allies, so feel free to launch attacks into the middle of any crowd. There will be a surprising number of Mongols sent in to die at the hands of Jin and his hwacha. Yuna will announce when there is nothing more to do.

The final combat sections play out much like the first several, with archers on the outskirts shooting in. If Jin utilizes the same strategy, he will get through just fine. Once Jin clears the second to last courtyard, with the large structure and several Mongol tents, he will need to climb the gate tower to see what is next.

GoT-Fate-Poison-Slaughter

Jin, Yuna, and Lord Shimura climb the gatehouse to watch their samurai allies drive across the bridge to the final keep. This is exactly what the Mongols had hoped, as a trap was perfectly planned and sprung. Scores of samurai perish on the bridge, which seems to havevery little effect on Lord Shimura. When he shouts orders at Jin regarding the next move, Jin openly refuses, questioning his uncle in the process.

The quest will end as Lord Shimura demands they speak in private. The assault will conclude in the final mission of Act 2, “From the Darkness”
