Square Enix’s announcement forMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyat E3 demonstrated that music would be a very important part of the game. From the trailer, 80s music appears as synonymous withMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyas it is for the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, fans hoping to streamMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyhave had fair concerns about whether it would be viable.
Twitch oftentimes has a manageable solution for copywritten music, such as muting brief portions of a broadcast where music was playing. This makes it so Twitch does not have to remove the broadcast completely from the digital platform because of DMCA risks. Rather, a contemporary solution to circumvent this streaming issue has been addressed in some games. Fans wishing tostreamMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyat launchwill fortunately be able to without worrying about its music.

According to TechRaptor,Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’s senior narrative director, Mary DeMarle, has announced that a DMCA-free streamer mode will be available. TechRaptor reports that the interview’s transcript reveals details about a jukebox on the Guardian’s ship where music will be playing. Further, a mechanic dubbed “the huddle” will appear in the game where players, as Peter Quill, may encourage the other Guardians by quoting song lyrics, which are then referenced to with the song playing during combat encounters that players have later in the game. Consequently, producing a streamer mode for the game seems necessary ifEidos Montreal wants players to streamit.
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act, or DMCA, has impeded Twitch streamers and content creators whose content features copywritten music. For example,Twitch’s copyright claimshave hit streamers because of previous broadcasts and clips that have contained a licensed soundtrack. Many streamers and content creators must now be vigilant when playing video games live or in captured footage, because a track or ambient theme that appears insignificant may result in a strike against the individual’s channel.
Fans may be relieved to hear news aboutMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyand its streamer mode. Streamer modes are put in place with the hopes of omitting any licensed music that appears throughout the game, and can be accessed in the game’s settings. It is currently unclear what filler music will replace the licensed music inMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Music is evidently paramount toMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’s gameplay mechanics. Unfortunately, 80s rock music appears to be influential and prominent inMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and fans may perhaps be missing out on a significant part of the game’s experience without it.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyis currently scheduled to release for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, on June 11, 2025.
