Originally a PS4 exclusive, the PC port ofHorizon: Zero Dawnreleased in August, coming to GOG later on in November. While the PS4 version was well received, there were a host of graphical and glitch caused problems in the PC port. Subsequent patches helped with many of these, but with the game relatively stable, Guerrilla released a statement saying that it will not be patchingHorizon: Zero DawnPC as often. Instead, the team is focusing onHorizon: Forbidden Westto make sure that it is ready for release.
One of the worst glitches inHorizon: Zero Dawn’s PC port was the Windows Key Crash, which crashed the game when the Windows key was hit repeatedly. Apparently, this was not a niche case as the glitch was considered a serious problem.Fixed by the 1.10 patch, the PC port is now in a more stable state. Since the team at Guerrilla has been very upfront about pulling most support fromHorizon: Zero Dawn’s PC port, any future discovered glitches will likely have to be dealt with through workarounds.
Of course, even without the glitches, there are still problems withHorizon: Zero Dawn. It is by no means a bad game, but there are still somepitfalls thatHorizon: Forbidden Westmust avoidto surpass its predecessor. The extra effort from Guerrilla will hopefully help ensure this.
How much ofHorizon: Forbidden Westwill rehashHorizon: Zero Dawnand how much big innovation will be in the title is still unknown. There are a lot ofcrazy development stories aboutHorizon: Zero Dawn, and one cannot help but speculate on whether or notHorizon: Forbidden Westwill have a similar bout of stories about it.
Horizon: Forbidden Westreleases on PS4 and PS5 in late 2021.
