Speaking to The Guardian, Kojima expressed that his most recent project is an entirely new medium of entertainment. While he didn’t share anything specific about his current work, Kojima insinuated that one project is perhaps his most ambitious ever, and something that requires newly released technology to produce. A variety ofrumors have been swirling about what a potentialDeath Strandingsequel could look like, but Kojima didn’t share any details or confirm the sequel’s existence.
Kojima was clear that this project is an entirely new concept, relying on novel technology, and stated that he believes he would be more commercially successful if he wasn’t the first person to produce such innovative titles. Yet, he said he wants to be the first to explore new mediums in video games, and discover new forms of entertainment.
Kojima went on to say that he’s waited a very long time to produce this project. While not much is known about Kojima’s next game, he announced earlier this month thatactress Elle Fanning will appear in the studio’s next title.
It’s assumed that the groundbreaking title Kojima is referring to will be released on Xbox, since it’s the first time he’s spoken of such a grand and ambitious project, and he chose to share those details at an Xbox specific event. Kojima’s partnership with Xbox worried fans about the developer’s future with PlayStation. However, Kojima stated he still has a very good working relationship with the PlayStation studios.
Death Strandingis available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
