Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ssingle-player campaign highlights how “War is hell,” but in a multiplayer match war leads to poorly timed helicopter takeoffs and hilarious accidents. ACall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2player shared a clip of the poorly timed, nearly impossible-to-replicate series of events leading to their helicopter exploding in midair due to tank treads. Normally, running over an airborne helicopter with a tank is impossible, but through an odd fluke of physics and horrible timing, one player made it happen.
Ground War, theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2large-scale team-based mode, supports two teams of 32 players vying for control of objectives with vehicles added to the usual multiplayer gameplay. Player-controlled vehicles are not a staple of theCall of Dutyfranchise, but the increased size and scale of Ground War matches means vehicles take on more importance.Modern Warfare 2has its share of bugs and glitches, but a tank landing on a helicopter is just a case of physics working as intended.

Reddit user Obscure19 shared the clip of themselves getting into a helicopter and starting to take off before getting clipped by another friendly helicopter. Unfortunately, the small bump from the other helicopter’s rotor blades caused Obscure19 to stay in the landing zone of an airdropped M1-Abrams tank. While not the same as a bug creating aModern Warfare 2match with only a .50 GS, no one expects the airborne tank to get a team kills, no matter how poorly timed the entire series of events.
Helicopters inModern Warfare 2can be used to devastating effect, and a skilled pilot on one team can turn the match in their favor with just a little luck. SomeModern Warfare 2pilots choose to kill with just the rotor blades, while most other players will get squad mates airborne and lay down suppressing fire. As demonstrated by Obscure19’s highlight clip, vehicles open up the possibility of all sorts of unintended kills, whether on the opposing team or the player’s own teammates.
Comments beneath Obscure19’s video, which has over 2,000 upvotes, quickly pointed out that there was nothing Obscure19 could have done to prevent this outcome once events were set into motion.Modern Warfare 2continues the tradition of"COD Timing" deathsthat have been happening since the very start of the franchise. Sometimes the universe just decides that events have aligned to cause inevitable player death. TheModern Warfare 2playerbase is quick to point out that this type of death is most prevalent in Ground War, as with 64 players, vehicles, and killstreaks getting involved, no amount of player skill can prevent every death.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
