Cooking inNo Rest for the Wickedis a core part of the gameplay loop. Players cook dishes, fight enemies, and eat to restore health. Since there is no health regeneration except in rare circumstances, and alternative means of healing like spells and lifesteal become available a little ways into the game, the only way to recover lost HP during the early stages is through cooking.

Even in the beginning, the island of Sacrament is unforgiving and brutal, and one small mistake can result in fights turning disastrous. Stocking up on health-restoring dishes before heading out quickly becomes standard practice once players start getting into the flow of the game, so it is vital that gamers knowhow to cookinNo Rest for the Wicked.
