Learning how to manage one’s crew is an important part ofStarfield, particularly for those who plan onbuilding multiple outpostsor purchasing additional ships. Assigning a crew member to a new location can also be a great way to pinpoint the location of a missing companion, though the Crew Roster menu generally gives players a pretty good idea of where everybody is.

How to Assign Companions to Ships and Outposts in Starfield

In order to assign crew members to an outpost or ship inStarfield, players will need to open up the Crew Roster menu. To do this, they’ll simply need to pause the game, navigate to the Ship menu in the bottom left-hand corner, and then press either the Y button (Xbox) or C key (PC). From the resulting screen, players can see all of their crew members as well as their current assignments.

By selecting one of these crew members, they’ll be able to assign them to a ship or outpost, as long as that ship or outpost currently has space. If not, they’ll first need to unassign one of the companions that are currently stationed there. It’s a good idea to pay attention to each crew member’s skills, being sure to put them somewhere where they won’t go to waste.

It’s also worth noting that before players can assign crew to an outpost, they’ll first need to build a Crew Station there, which will require five Aluminum, two Iron, and three Nickel. Thankfully, these are all resources that are pretty easy to come by inStarfield, particularly if players have unlocked and upgraded the Scanning and Astrophysics skills fromthe Science skill tree.

How to Increase the Maximum Number of Crew Members

Initially, players will only be able to recruit a couple of crew members, but can easily increase this amount by unlocking the Ship Command skill fromthe Social skill tree. Once it has been fully upgraded, players will be able to have up to eight active crew members at any given time. They’ll also be able to increase the number of crew members who can be stationed at an outpost by unlocking the Outpost Management skill and upgrading it to Rank 3.
