InInsurgency: Sandstorm, certain players will have the ability to call in support based on the classes they choose. This is a critical ability to have at their disposal and can turn the tide of a battle. Certain criteria must be met for players to call in support and situations where it will be impossible to use this ability. Here’s everything players need to know about calling in support.

Establish A Commander

The Commander is the party memberwho will issue the call for support. It is essential that there be a commander for the party, or this ability will not be available, period. The Commander uses assault rifles and battle rifles astheir primary weaponsbut has access to binoculars, which are essential for calling in support.

They have access to ten different types of support features. However, they can only use them when there is an active Observer. Without this party member active and within close range, the Commander is restricted to the use of their firearms and cannot call in support.

Establish An Observer

The Observer is the party member that actually makes the call for support oncethe Commander issues the call. They must be able to complete their voice lines for the call to go through. Additionally, before they speak, the Commander must also complete their voice line. If there is no Commander, the Observer cannot complete the call and will complain about the absence of a Commander.

Both the Commander and Observer must survive the entire transmission of the message for it to be a success. If either party member is wounded during the transmission or there is heavy noise disruption from artillery, the voice lines can be disrupted. This will result in a request to repeat the message. Both the Commander and Observer are set to automatically retransmit. However, their voices will be more irritated when doing so.The Observer must follow the Commanderbecause players never want to be in a situation where the Commander is trying to call for support and the Observer is too far away.

Making The Call For Support

Insurgency: Sandstormmakes it easy for players tocoordinate the two classesof Commander and Observer. There is a tool that color coordinates the two on the mini-map so that they will always be able to see where they are in relation to each other. For the call for support to work, the two key party members must be within 10 meters of one another. The two must work together to find an adequate location to call for support.

In addition to the requirement of proximity between the Commander and Observer, there are cooldown periods players need to be aware of. Each type of fire support has limitations on the number of times it can be used and, on top of that, has acooldown period between uses. Players will not be able to use it during these cooldown times. The Commander also has a cooldown period. Once they issue a call, there is a wait before they can issue another call, so players must time their attacks appropriately.

Players will need to bring up the radial menu of call-ins. The Commander will need to place the green indicator where they want to fire and execute the call. The Observer will then call in the coordinates. It is important to note that if either party member experiences suppression during the call, there will be a delay in the attack. Additionally, if the Commander or Observer dies before the call is completed, it will not go through.
