Summary
CD Projekt Red has confirmed that no one at the company is currently working onCyberpunk 2077, marking the end of an era for the open world action-RPG. Development onCyberpunk 2077reportedly started shortly after the release ofThe Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, meaning someone at CD Projekt Red has been working on the game in some capacity since 2012. The wait for the game was an excruciating one for fans of CD Projekt Red’s work, and whenCyberpunk 2077was finally released to the masses, it unfortunately failed to live up to expectations.
While those with high-end PCs had a fine enough time with the game,Cyberpunk 2077launched in a disastrous state on consoles.Cyberpunk 2077’s launch state was bad enoughthat PlayStation and Xbox started offering refunds for the game, with PlayStation going as far as to remove it from its digital storefront entirely. CD Projekt Red didn’t give up onCyberpunk 2077, though, and instead committed itself to improving the game through sizable updates that addressed fan feedback and made important changes, vastly improving its reputation in the process.

Cyberpunk 2077originally launched in 2020, but the need to improve the game through updates and the work that was being done on the Phantom Liberty expansion meant that CD Projekt Red still had people working on it four years later. However,CD Projekt Red’s latest financial reporthas confirmed that it no longer has anyone working onCyberpunk 2077at all. All of CD Projekt Red’s employees have moved on to other projects, but it’s not all bad news forCyberpunkfans.
CD Projekt Red is Done Working on Cyberpunk 2077
According to CD Projekt Red, 56 employees are currently working on Project Orion. For the uninitiated,Project Orion is the codenamefor theCyberpunksequel that’s currently in development at the studio. That may not seem like a lot of people, but that’s because the company is currently dedicating significantly more resources to a different, non-Cyberpunkgame that it currently has in the works.
Currently, CD Projekt Red has 407 people working on Project Polaris, the codename for the nextWitchergame. Not much is known about the newWitchergame, except that it will bebuilt using Unreal Engine 5and is meant to be the start of a new trilogy. Fans can expect the newWitchergame to be CD Projekt Red’s next major release, followed by theCyberpunksequel, though there are even more games associated with the company that are in the pipeline.

CD Projekt Red is also working on Project Hadar, a completely original IP, as well as Project Sirius, aWitchermultiplayer game, which is being made alongside The Molasses Flood. And finally, aWitcher 1remake is in development at Fool’s Theory, with it too using Unreal Engine 5.
